    Re: Gigabyte x58 ud5 issues

Thanx for testing that. Yes I do get a mac address. One thing I have noticed is the chips appear as Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controllers not as Realtel RTL8168D/811D Family PCI-E gigabit ethernet NIC(ndis 6.20). Even if i try to select the latter in the driver panel it says a problem was encountered installing. Only the former driver name can install.... Could this be the problem?

      Re: Gigabyte x58 ud5 issues

If your comfortable doing this, roll back to when you first did the fresh installation, the automatic NIC drivers in W7 should work fine right away.

I found with Vista 32bit and Vista 64bit that Installing the microsoft update NIC driver would stuff them up and they wouldnt work until I rolled back.

Even if your using the native w7 included drivers, you wont lose any features or anything, and I find they would be more reliable then the mobo disc drivers or the windows update ones.

Now if after the very beginning of installing Windows 7 you had the NIC problem right away and didint update or install any aditional drivers prior to the problem then disregard this post :)

        Re: Gigabyte x58 ud5 issues

I would try as mentioned above, rolling the driver back. You may need to do this in safe mode to avoid windows automatically reinstalling the driver. I think one method should also allow you to delete the driver as you uninstall it, Maybe uninstall device instead of driver (Not sure). Either way try both in Safe Mode and cancel the auto driver install if it starts.

I am not sure if driver cleaner/sweeper programs can delete these drivers or not, but that may be worth a try as well

What you mention about the "Realtek RTL8168D/811D Family PCI-E gigabit ethernet NIC(ndis 6.20)" is correct, that is how it should show up once you install a RealTek Driver, see here is my vista device manager with RealTek Driver installed (Realtek LAN 8111 vista x64 6.213.1110.2008). >>>

You did not see that in the above image because that was using Windows 7 Default driver.

Would you like me to test the Realtek drivers in windows 7 as well? I can, no problem

You really need to setup a dual boot, either with XP, Vista, or Windows 7 again so you can test on a clean install if the default drivers are working or your hardware is bad possibly? I'd suggest a dual windows 7 setup because we know from my test that the default drivers work without issue, the same cannot be said for XP/Vista though as I have not tested things like that.

I can tell you that I DO get a similar error (Error 10) if the incorrect RealTek driver is installed in vista, so you may just be installing the wrong driver as well?

Worse comes to worse and you do a dual setup and all works fine you will at least know that a clean install will make it all good.

And as said above, I do not suggest you obtain any drivers from windows updates, as these are often known to cause issues. Always get drivers direct from the sources

          Re: Gigabyte x58 ud5 issues

Thanx for the efforts... I'll do one more clean install of win7RTM on a separate raptor i have sitting in sys doing nothing.

After that i gonna take the mobo out in take a hammer to it......

Any recommendations for another gigabyte board except the ud5?

          I can get a ud3r very cheaply.....

            Re: Gigabyte x58 ud5 issues

UD4P is awesome, and cheaper than the UD5

Clean install should be fine for you, unless there is some hardware issues of course.

              Re: Gigabyte x58 ud5 issues

Nothing wrong with the UD5, apart from the noisy chokes, which afaik you can run into on any of the current x58 rev1 (non a's).
