    Re: E5200 + GA-EP45-DS3P Overclock help

    ;) back with an update

Ran a few 3DMark06 tests and a few Crysis loops.

    Currently at

    Core - 830Mhz (stock volts)
    Mem - 990Mhz (issue at 1000Mhz)

No artifacts - currently testing 840Mhz core and will bump the mem +5Mhz and try again

      Re: E5200 + GA-EP45-DS3P Overclock help

      Looking good.

It may be that a balance of Core to mem clock is needed. An 800MHz core with 4ghz RAM may be possible for example. It may also perform better as Anti Aliasing and detailed textures like more bandwidth.

If not then it's a RAM voltage issue as the actual RAM IC's are designed to be run at 4GHz stock, ATI just down clock them for some reason, probably to allow future models to be a bit superior (4890) in the RAM clock department.

In post #5 you said that you've never loaded optimized bios settings.
Make sure that you save your current bios settings in a bios profile BEFORE you load optimized settings.

                Re: E5200 + GA-EP45-DS3P Overclock help

Back again, Currently 4 hours into a prime95 blend test. Its looking good! The ram is slightly overclocked using 2.4B strap. Also I'm sure I will soon run into the FSB wall but 350 seems to be pretty good, I've heard a common FSB wall for E5200's is 320.

If this passes I'll try raising the FSB 10Mhz a time till I get to the wall. Once this happens I'll try for 4 Ghz.

I still see you have not loaded optimized defaults, Please do this and start over. You will have a much easier go at things.

Ah Sorry I have loaded the optimized defaults to the bios but I have copy and pasted my original settings from my first post and changed the multi and FSB settings. Sorry about that.

Ahh ok, well just so you are sure of that. There is several hidden settings that would be wrong, as well as some visible ones and that would mess up your overclocks and possibly make you use more voltages than need be

                        Re: E5200 + GA-EP45-DS3P Overclock help

                        Hmm

I've come to switch on the pc this morning and I get absolutly no response when pressing power.

                        Not even fan spin.

I've re-seated 24pin and 8pin power to the motherboard and checked the FP cables to the motherboard. All are attached correctly and I've tried powering up with the motherboard power button.

I've reset the cmos and taken the battery out but still nothing when I try to power up.
All I have is a red light next to the memory modules I think its the ACPI led.
I have also swapped out the memory

I've checked for leaks and anything that could have shorted the board but there is nothing.

I wasn't pushing the voltage much and there is no physical issues. Anyone know what this could mean.

                          Re: E5200 + GA-EP45-DS3P Overclock help

I would get the board out of the case and off the motherboard tray and try again. Also if possible test your hardware in another PC to be sure none of it is faulty.

And, try clearing your CMOS again using the method I outline in step #2 here

I have taken the Cmos battery out for an hour or so, popped it back in and its now booted up.

                              Glad to hear it!

I wonder why the problem occured. Hopefully it won't happen again. If it does then you may need to tweak some voltages slightly etc. Also, if not using the latest BIOS, go ahead and flash. Sometimes downgrading to the last but one BIOS has worked for me with other manufacturers. I remember flashing to an early BIOS for my MSI NForce 4 board because it was the only one with a DDR1 166 multi (not 1066, the Nforce let you run RAM lower than the FSB). Newer isn't always better.
