• Need help in selecting the right MoBo

My apologies if this is not the right place to ask this question.

However, I am pretty new at this and building my first machine.

The MoBo which are interesting are GA-EP45T-UD3R and GA-EP45-UD3LR

I will be using Q9550 Quad Core..

Want to know what are the differences and what things should be looking for in selecting my MoBo?

    Thanks for the help.

Re: Need help in selecting the right MoBo

I knew I wanted to run a raid utilizing two or three hds (eventually) and were going to run at least two CD/DVD/Blu/RW or whatever. There for I wanted a minimum of five SATA slots (as I wanted only SATA connections). I wanted a board that was capable of Crossfire since I will again eventually have to vid cards.. I wanted an Intel chipset cause I think their better than say NVIDIA (just me folks). I wanted a board that had a high FSB capability and a high memory buss for DDR2. I wanted a board that was easily overclocked ad looked sharp too. Any way I looked at them all and comp aired them to what I needed in a board and for me the UD3P meets or exceeded my needs and it's a good looking board. The reviews of the board were really helpful to me also. Oh also cost was a factor for me at the time as I wanted a sub $100 board.

Re: Need help in selecting the right MoBo

GA-EP45T-UD3R is the DDR3 version of the EP45-UD3R.

The EP45-UD3LR is a cut down version of the UD3R. It has no dual ethernet and no heatsinks on the MOSFETs. It also has a regular cooler on the northbridge rather than a heatpipe one.

Be aware of the different boards and DDR2/DDR3 varieties. If you plan on re-using DDR2 or buy some cheap, then get a DDR3 board, you're screwed.

Re: Need help in selecting the right MoBo

Well After a quick look on the Gigabyte website the one main difference between these two mother boards is that the GA-EP45T-UD3R uses DDR3 RAM and the GA-EP45-UD3LR uses DDR2. I have noticed that DDR3 has come down in price pretty well over the last few months which makes the differnce there small. DDR3 will run @ a faster speed hence be faster probably. The EP45T Does not support Tripple channel however So you will be running you DDR3 in Dual Channel only. The EP45T does probably have better Motherboard Cooling with the heat pipe being used.
