  • Please Help! Sudden instability issues??

    Hello All,

I have been running at 4 GHz for a couple of months now with any issues.

Recently when powering on from a cold boot, the system will crash at the loading windows screen and then load the default BIOS settings.

When I go into the BIOS the red dialog box will be there stating that the BIOS isn't stable.

Can you please help me figure out these issues?

My systems specs are in my signature.

I have posted my Template below.

Re: Please Help! Sudden instability issues??

If it were me, I'd re-check the need to alter MCH/DRAM ref first. It may be required, and could be you have the correct value. However my own experience (different as on a low mulit Quad) has been that the only setting that works for me is auto.

Basically my aproach is to go through voltages and settings first that when initially clocking, you would tune last. So the order would be:
    • Clock skew (if you added any)
    • Channel A&B Ref, DRAM Term
    • MCH/DRAM Ref
    • MCH Ref
    • CPU Ref and MCH Core
    • PLL CPU Term
    • Vcore

It may very well be that you need a little more Vcore, but what seems like a gradual onset of instability may be more complex.

Are you using the very nice (and bl00dy huuuuge) case you link to in your sig? If so then cooling looks well under control. However, re-check temps just in case. It's been sunny here in England for the last 2 days, and my idle temps have increased to about 40c, which shows how much ambient temps effect cooling, especially air. Water would be effected too, but small fluctuations effect it less, because water needs time to heat up, and can hold a cool "night time temperature" for several hours.

If all else fails, maybe consider using a 9*450 config, with the same multi. This will give of course DDR-1080, but if it brings stability, then the 100MB or so loss in bandwidth and 0.2-0.5 in latency will be worth it to be rock solid stable.

I wrote alot here, as looking at your sig and moddingexperience, you can handle the info over load without bother. Love the angled mesh you made for the bottom of the case, looks ace!
