    Re: Help for Newbie

Please start over using optimized defauls, you are using FAIL SAFE Settings as a starting point and this can cause many issues as there is visible and not visible settings per your hardware that may be set incorrectly.

Please see here for info on loading optimized defaults >>

After you do that if you still need help give us your full new settings and we can advise. I can tell you now that you need more MCH Voltage, you need to manually set your ram voltage, Vtt (Termination), CPU PLL Voltage, and to put performance enhance on standard until you get going.

Great advice. From my experience with my Q8200 it was difficult to get past 3.2GHz and I only just scraped 3.4GHz stable, with alot of effort and reference voltage tuning.

You may have an easier time of it as your multiplier is one higher than mine, meaning you can use a slower FSB to get the same core speed. However I can't see any Q8xxx series chip getting over 3.6-3.8 without hard core cooling and probably huge voltages.

The Q8xxx series seems to be a kind of dumping ground for 45nm quads that didn't make the grade for the Q9xxx series. Not saying they're bad chips, they aren't. Just that they may not be as good overclockers as the Q9xxx quads. Intel putting out a second stepping of the Q8xxx series less than 5 months after launch also has me thinking they're failed Q9xxx series chips of varying steppings, some with enhanced halt states, some without.
