  • How to change device manager still showing E8400 on 2 cores after upgrade to Q9650

I just was checking device manager and noticed that it still shows the 1st 2 cores as E8400 even though I have a Q9650 installed now. Not sure if this effects anything or not, but is there a way to change it?

I just tried the "scan for hardware changes" and it didnt change it

You'll probably find the answer in the MS knowledge base. You could try installing the latest Chipset "inf" driver, although I doubt it'll make a difference.

    EDIT:-
Answer if Vista or Server 2008:-

Device Manager does not show updated processor information on a Windows Vista-based computer or on a Windows Server 2008-based computer

Just uninstall the old chip by r.clicking it in Device Manager, then restart. If that does not work, do a repair install of your OS by booting from the OS disc.
