    GA-EX58-UD5 post error 6F and checksum error..

    I hope that you can help me here...

    This is the problem: When my computer have been turned off, and when I start it the day after it beeps and will not boot. When checking the led display it stops at 6F and reboots by it self. (letting it do this a couple of times, it will take me to the bios screen) The last couple of days it even says there is a check sum error in the bios and the original F2 bios is restored to the motherboard bios.

    Could this be a bad board or could it be something else, I have random crashes in windows too. Is it a good thing running this setup with a "old" PSU that don't have the right connections, could it be a problem?

    My system: Gigabyte EX58-UD5 | Intel i7 920@stock | Corsair XMS3 1333 | XFX 260@stock | 2 Samsung 250Gb RAID0 ICH10 | WD 1Tb | Antec TruePower 550W ATX 2.0

    What PSU are you using?

    Older PSU's had the power emphasis on the 3.3 & 5volt lines. Todays PC's rely Heavily on the 12volt line and it's capacity.
    Startup puts demand on the PSU. For instance Hard Drives can take upto 3 times their normal Read/Write operational current.

      It's a old Antec TruePower 550W ATX 2.0 and you are right ...it only has 24Amps on the 12V rail. Will get the new corsair 850W tomorrow I hope

        Yep 24 amps isn't enough with the GTX260 in the mix.

          Now I.m up and running with the new psu, now I can start prime and run 3d mark without crashes :D Let's hope that "it" will start tomorrow without the reboot loop and checksum error.

            The Corsair 850watt PSU looks good. 70amps on the 12volt like is a very nice capacity and the 5year warranty protects your investment.

            Whilst your Antec PSU was one of the best in it's day, due to ageing components it would probably struggle to even supply as much as 24amps on its 12volt line now.

              I just got home from work and started up my PC and beep and 6F on the led display. It will do about 10-15 reboots and then it will get past the 6F and say bios checksum error.
              Then I load the "last known good setting" and it will boot in to windows.

              The first 2 or 3 weeks this was not a problem the board ran just fine, could it be helped with some kind of other method of bios flash och should I take the motherboard back to the store ? ( since I got the board I have tried a couple of beta bios, maybe something got screwed up? )

                Have you tried running Memtest?

                Also what are you running your DDR3 at? Stock timings (auto) and Stock Voltage 1.5volts?
                You may need to increment the DDR3 voltage ever so slightly, if it's currently set at 1.5volts, ie the minimal increase possible.

                Have you always loaded up the optimised defaults, SAVED & then allow it to reboot after each bios upgrade? Then re- enter the bios and setup any specifics.

                Also Q-Flash is prefered to @bios. In Qflash you can also Disable, prior to flashing proper the option "Keep DMI Pool".

                  I was thinking memory problem to, because if you put the memory in the blue slots this 6F will happen... maybe I should try and see

                  when it did not boot today I had the memory set at 1066 and increased the voltage one step. but still no go

                    I think you need to run through the basics, even clearing the CMOS etc. Then checking with Memtest Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

                      After every flash I have loaded the optimized defaults and saved and then started over, and I always use Qflash.

                          Thanks for the tip on memtest, one stick was bad. Now I have removed it and let's hope the pc will boot nice tomorrow. Never thought that a corsair memory could be bad :D
