  • Setting timings on GA-EP45-DS3R

Hi all, i've been lurking around these forums but couldn't get a solution by my own (sorry).

I just build a simple nice budget gaming pc with the following specs:
    - E7300
    - GEIL 2 GB DDR2-800 Kit (GX22GB6400UDC)
    - GA-EP45-DS3R (with F10 bios)
    - Sapphire HD4870
    - Corsair 650w
    - Artic Freezer Pro
    (nothing is overclocked btw)

Everything works fine, but i started searching the internet for some info about how to set my memory timings because i found out that my memory was made for [email protected]

I tried to change the recommended timings (4-4-4-12) and voltage (2.1) in the bios but then my system would boot 2 times and display the warning in the bios that something went wrong, and that the settings maybe wouldn't be accurate anymore.

i also had a go with MemSet 3.6 like described in the "memory timings explained" topic but with no real success. I could change all of the main timings to the correct ones except the main (tCL) is stuck at 5. So i changed everything back to default (5-5-5-15)

Everything in my bios is now set to Auto. (ps. wil it not damage my system if i continue to run it like this?) i now have the following result with cpu-z etc.

What am i doing wrong? or what should i do?
    Any help is appreciated.

    Re: Setting timings on GA-EP45-DS3R

You have tRD (Static tRead Value) set to low is why you cannot boot 444-12. Either way, if you are using Auto or setting it 5 is too low for 1000Mhz for sure, likely even for 800Mhz. Just said 1000 due to your Memset shot, wasnt sure if you compiled that image or what. You should be using 7-8 at least, 6 may work but that depends on other timings, voltages, and ram quality

By the way, Try this Beta Memset, very nice and will pickup your ram properly and show you FULL SPD information if your ram has it programmed. tCL (CAS) is never changeable within windows so that is normal >>>

Try this for your memory settings, going by your stock values shown above >>>>

      Re: Setting timings on GA-EP45-DS3R

First off thanks for taking the time to help me, i was getting a little desperate because i couldn't figure out what i was doing

I did take that screen shot myself, the quality was a little bit off because i did not have a correct image editing program.

i used you're recommended settings (starting at the top and working my way down like you suggested) and testing them every time with a boot able cd of Memtest86.

And i think everything works like it should now :D so I'm a happy camper

I'm using the following settings, with the following results in win XP (screens shot)

        Re: Setting timings on GA-EP45-DS3R

Looks good man! Now you can try Static tRead Value 6-7 if you want, that would improve things. 6 may not work but 7 likely will

          Re: Setting timings on GA-EP45-DS3R

          Hi again,
Yesterday i tried to set Static tRead Value 6, everything worked like it should. (memtest/orthos etc.)

But today when i turned my PC on, it restarted twice before it booted up normally, is this a sign that the setting are a bit to much?

The really weird part is that it apparently only happens when the PC is off for a little while. (Cold restart) Any suggestions?
