    Hey Guys,

    This is a reference for those interested in overclocking a Q6600 B3 Stepping on a UD3R. CPU @ 3.0 ghz and ram ddr2 800 @ 1000mhz

    This is a low/simple overclock. My 3.2 ghz boots but fails orthos. Too much work so I settled with 3.0. Any Ideas? Otherwise, use these references for your own overclocks if needed.

    Below are my specs and bios settings.

    Intel Q6600 @ 3.0 ghz

    4 GB ddr2 800

    (2x1 OCZ reapers rated at 4-4-4-15 1T 'OCZ2RPR8002GK' and 2x1 OCZ gaming ram 4-4-4-15 1T 'OCZ2N800SR2GK')

    8800 GTX

    Corsair 520HX

    PS - I'm using a Tuniq Tower 120

    Idle Temps range from 40-44c across 4 Cores

    Load 100% in orthos is 65C ~ +/- 2C

    I use speedfan.

      Would you like help getting 3.2 to work for you? I can help if so, those sticks may not work well together but seems as you have them stable so if you do want some help with 3.2 let me know

      As for now you should for SURE find and set your own Stable Vtt (Termination) and PLL as Auto WAY Overvolts them when overclocking

        Re: EP45-UD3R and Q6600 B3 Overclock Reference

        Sure man. I'll go fix those two values for now.
        The ram seems to be rock solid right now at 1000mhz 5-5-5-15 2T @ 2.1V with MCH and ICH cores at 1.2V. It passed ram test and I've played hours in GTA IV with them.
        I would like to find a stable overclock setting for 3.2ghz just for future knowledge, in case I ever use that.
        At 3.2ghz, do you think I can still run my ram at 1000mhz? If not, is there a performance trade-off? I was thinking of dropping these four sticks and get myself a pair of 2x2gb 1066 ram.

        Thanks! Happy New Year!

          Re: EP45-UD3R and Q6600 B3 Overclock Reference

          I turned vtt to 1.24V and PLL to 1.5V.

          Almost I have this minor discrepancy. When I boot, everything looks right - bios reads 3.0 ghz and it boots. Sometimes though, when I go into M.I.T. settings, I get the red window that says "your system failed to reboot and settings have been changed due to overclocking blah blah blah." Its something like that. But, when I just the same settings again, everything is right, windows boots, cpuz reads the right values, memtest is good, and orthos is good.
          What's the verdict? Maybe the ram timings are too tight?

            After I turned vtt to 1.24V and PLL to 1.5V, so far, I don't have that read message.

              after i messed around with the cpu term vtt and pll, i got weird post errors, including a check sum error. i got this one where it posts the first screen with all the right speeds, loads hd's, but then it goes black. i changed the cpu term and pll to auto and so far no more weird posts.

                Re: EP45-UD3R and Q6600 B3 Overclock Reference

                Ya, red error means incorrect voltages or timings.... Could be anything really. Lots of options in there so you never know! Ya could be timings too tight, not sure as you didn't post them, could also be that your ram just wont stay stable at 1000Mhz, and mixed ram adds to this problem especially since the ram is rated for 800

                Sounds like you corrupted your Main BIOS is all why you got the checksum error, should be all fine after it recovers from the backup. You may want to check your BIOS version now and be sure you still have the latest after the recovery and then load optimized again and start over.

                Here would be some 3.2 ranges for ya to mess with. Aside from CPU Voltages, I can only guess that for you as all chips are different. So just set high enough that you know it will boot and you can lower later >>>>>

                  Re: EP45-UD3R and Q6600 B3 Overclock Reference

                  for the mch/ich area,

                  mch/ich cores are on 1.2V and the computer responds fairly wel.
                  However, if i manual select the ich i/o voltages, I get weird post problems.

                  for cpu vtt / pll, i used the settings you've prescribed and seems fine.

                  for ram, i get lockups in bios if I tweak the advance settings. its fine when i only tweak the basic setting to 5-5-5-15 2t

                  however, when i do use the 5-5-5-15 2t settings, sometimes the bios resets the settings when i start up the computer for a first time. any ideas?

                    Re: EP45-UD3R and Q6600 B3 Overclock Reference

                    Well what do you mean manually then about ICH, stock/default is 1.1V. 1.14 or so should be good there, unless you have tons of drives and such. I use 1.4-1.8 with 4 HDD's and one 3870. If you only have one or two drives 1.4 or so should be fine

                    About your ram, then it sounds like you still have one or more too low, or not enough MCH voltage or are using to tight of a strap

                    Please post your settings again that you are now using, make two sets for me a stable one and one you try that fails

                          Actually, that didn't turn out so well. I'm on 2.08 for dram and 1.2 for mch. mch doesn't respond well if it goes higher than 1.2. also, i let the timings of ram on auto to see if theres any problem now.

                          1000mhz 5-7-7-19 2T .

                            I think you have some settings listed wrong. There is no Memory multi on the 333 strap that would equal 334 X ? = 1000

                            There is only 2.00, 2.40, 3.20, and 4.00 and for 333 FSB that would be as follows +1 for your 334 FSB

                            2.00=667
                            2.40=800
                            3.20=1066
                            4.00=1333

                            Just thought I would make this point to you since you posted this as a reference for others

                            So you either just have the wrong Memory Freq Listed above, or you are confused about what strap you set. You should just put MCH Strap on Auto and use the B memory multi choices for 333 FSB
