Hi
I have been overclocking my CPU and using memtest+ and orthos, runns ok for 1 hr. Then run FSX on XP home and within 10 mins at EGLL it freezes and I have to reset PC. Now inertestingly, it never happens if I relax memory timing or set back to default CPU and BISO settings, which would suggest one of 2 things.
None of the above-mentioned do a full job of stressing the CPU + RAM, or FSX with the add-ons of traffic and secenary create too many file read requests that either the HDD cannot keep up with the faster throughput or its getting lost.
I don't know, but it looks like FSX is a better stress tester than either of the above, be it an expensive tester with add-ons. Or FSX is a leaky peice of s/w when you have add-ons and issues arise!!
I wish someone could post a method of setting RAM timing as you overclock the CPU, also I may be contributing to the this issue bacuse I have 2 sets of 2X 1GB RAM modules, they are not matched purchased 3 months apart.
At default memtest says my memory B/W is nearly 5000m/b, if I set timing for each and increase it to 5300m/b I start getting problems with FSX not orthos or memtest, this with with approx FSB 430.
What is the best method forward?
