Re: Looking to fine tune E8500 with GA-EP45-UD3R

disconnected everything, reset the bios, tried the "possible" bad ram, powered up, beeped several fast beeps (like 24 or so). Turned the power off, put the other stick in and the system booted right up. Sounds like I got one bad stick of ram.

You should have Performance Enhance set to Standard and tRFC to 60 for 4GB and 1000Mhz ddr2.

I talked with gigabyte and my troubleshooting the ram seems on par, one works, one is doa. I will take all the suggestions when I get a new set of ram next week, pretty disappointed with gskill so far.

I've read here --->bit-tech.net | Review - Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R, that they had a lot of trouble reaching a stable overclock with a 500 fsb clock. If I were you I'd raise the multiplier and lower the FSB, that's probably one of the reasons your oc is unstable.

Too bad about your RAM, but I'd like to know if your have any success by lowering the multiplier. I'm getting this board soon, with the same processor as you and liked to see someone reach a stable 4ghz with the E8500 Btw, the url above should be reliable enough to take the advice given there.

The board ran 500 fsb for 12 hours until the memory started to fail. I'm wonduring if I can get it stable at that speed again. I would be okay at 425 at 9.5 though. Ram is coming monday, i'll have to memory test it this time around.

New memory installed, running just 400 fsb, pretty much everything on auto, no problems (except for the sound blaster driver for vista 64, go figure, works okay in the os, world of warcraft but voices fade in and out in fallout3), overclocked to 3.8. I did a new install of vista 64, so I ran it at stock speeds of 3.16 with the memory at 2.1 volts for the first couple of hours while I did the new install of vista, just to make sure everything was stable before I overclocked.
