  • GA-P35C-DS3R Reboot Problem

Hi guys, I hope someone can help me here. I've had a GA-P35C-DS3R 1.1 for a few months now and it keeps rebooting when i switch it off and all bios settings are reset. This mainly happens when I switch the computer off at night. This has happened with bios F10, F11b, F11 and F12b I've looked at many threads on this and suggests its a memory problem. But i've used 4x1GB Patriot memory 800mhz 4-4-12 and 2x2Gb A-Data Vitesta 800Mhz 5-5-5 15 and still can't get it to stop rebooting.

If I overclock the oveclock will stay for around two reboots then the reboot cycle happens again. I have an E8400 CPU.

Please could someone help me put the correct settings into my bios as this is driving me insane. Many thanks

From what I've read this is a problem with rev 1.1 you will need to send it back and get an updated module. I got the same board as you but i got the rev 2.0. And it seems to be a problem with this one too. I also experience bootup problems when computer have been shutdown during the night, it wont boot and resets itself and I have to load my settings again. On Gigabytes site GIGABYTE - Support - Motherboard - BIOS - GA-P35C-DS3R (rev. 2.0) you can see that there's an rev 2.1 this makes me think I will have to get my board replaced as well :(

I'm waiting to hear back from Gigabyte, it's been 8 days sens I send them an email (Email ID is 675405)

PS: I'm not sure if you take this as an RMA post? If so this is NOT what I mean :)

It's most likely a memory setting that is just on the edge of being stable, which shows up moreso when the PC is cold booted. i doubt there is a problem with the board.

For starters, change these settings in the MIT section of the bios:-

        1) Set tRFC (Refresh to ACT Delay) = 54 - 62 (try anything between those values)
        2) Performance Enhance = Standard
        3) Set main memory timings to 5-5-5-18

Board Revision 2.1 is the forerunner to the GA-EP35C-DS3R, it just has the power saving feature added - nothing else.

It's the last of the GA-P35C-DS3R Revisions that don't have the new Energy saving feature.

Yeap, rev 2.1 is the same as EP models

Your issue is likely voltages or timings and not really the board (Although it could be) if you want some help with your settings please post me a link to the ram you are using now and tell me how much of it you have and fill out this with your settings you are trying and I will advise >>>

Well Auto is not usually best, overclocking or not. Hey, what amount of ram are you using now just to be sure? You linked 1GB sticks but you mention 2x2 A-data above. So I really cannot advise until I am sure. If you want, please also link to the page you bought the ram from

See if these changes help any (Will edit once I am sure about your ram configuration) >>>

                          Re: GA-P35C-DS3R Reboot Problem

Hi again Lsdmeasap, thats the problem with the links, I cant find the 2x2Gb on the A-Data website, there is a link for for the 667Mhz memory but not the 800Mhz. But it is definetley 800Mhz memory as i have the packaging and can find the memory for sale on a few websites, I cant find it on A-data though, sorry about that.

*EDIT* I have found the 2gb modules listed under 'order info' so I guess they are 1.8V +/-0.1v as well

Anyway it appears my system is not rebooting as much (if at all). I have put in the new settings and all apears to be good so far but I will test for a few more days. As I said before it mainly happens when the machine has been off for a while. If it is rebooting but not as frequently (I had this before) does this mean I need to fine tune the settings?

And secondly this is the other memory set I mentioned earlier (which have tighter timings than the A-data), http://www.patriotmemory.com/product...&id=662&type=1 what voltages do I need to set for using 4x1Gb?

Many thanks for your help, I appreciate it

Ahh, so you did not buy it online? What is the Model # on the sticker, maybe I can find it

Ya, sounds like you almost have it since it is not doing it as much. If you need help finding which your issue may be post me what you are using exactly and how often you get a BSOD and I will try to help. BSOD can also be a driver issue, you need to get the BSOD code/error #. To do that since the screen goes by so fast you have to change a setting. This setting is in system properties, advanced tab, then startup and recovery. Inside this window you will see "System Failure" at the bottom, inside it uncheck "Automatically restart" then when you next BSOD your system will stay on the BSOD Screen until you reboot. This way you can get the error code or message

For 4x1 of that ram I would suggest similar settings, with a few changes >>>>

                              Re: GA-P35C-DS3R Reboot Problem

Hi again, thanks for your replies my board seems to be much more stable now, I have only had one reboot now. Im not sure if you understand my problem completely as it is not rebooting whilst in windows. The boot doesn't get that far, the reboot cycle is as though I have overclocked my board and the board doesn't accept the settings. So it switches off, trys to reboot, switches off, trys to reboot etc, normally I have to pull the plug or turn the PSU switch off. There is no BSOD as I don't even get to the S.M.A.R.T diagnostic screen. When the machine does boot into windows its rock solid and doesn't hang or reset.

Thanks for the other settings as well for the 4x1Gb sticks, although I can't set the memory to +0.4v (for 2.2v) as the bios only goes up to +0.3. Thanks for your help again.

Yes you are correct about the A-data sticks I brought them from a local computer shop not the intrenet. The info on the sticker is AD2800002GQ0U DDR2 800(5) 2GX16 ADQVE1B16 M20AD6H3J4171Q1E52
