ok here's the deal
I fixed the no shut down issue (graphics driver reload)
but 11e-g bios' on the z790 aorus elite ax(v1.0) have memory issues
reason why is if I run memtest 86 pro on F11D it will pass all 13 tests 4 times with my OC'd memory configuration
but F11E-G it will fail within the first 2 tests every time . very unstable bios'
but F11D is fine
I need some guidance here. Using B550 Vision DP with F15. I want to update the FW to the latest F17.
To update the FW, is it mandatory to disconnect the NVmE which I am using as my data drive? Understand that no pen drive should be connected except the one with FW in the flash USB.

I have never heard of having to disconnect another drive to do a flash just select the drive with the bios update file in the bios utility Qflash which is accessed from within UEFI or by hitting end instead of delete on the logo splash screen. One thing you can do to ensure you don't end up with issues is to put everything to default before flashing like XMP and any OC settings. I have had many drives connected even over USB including other pen drives and no issues on my end and I flash literally every single release and there has been a lot for my board X570 Aorus Elite. Hope I am understanding your issue correctly.

Noted and thanks.
I did my first FW update about 2 years ago and I cannot recall all the details now. It was a scary event for me, the brick scenario was in my head. Ha.
I want to do another FW update as mine is now a few FW behind, mainly for the security updates.
I have checked on the web and also with GG HQ, and they stated to remove all SSDs for the FW update. Removing my SSD (NVmE) is troublesome as I will have to remove my GPU (fear touching the clip to release the GPU as I may have damaged it the last time I used it).
Appreciate your input on my steps below:
a. Copy the latest and correct FW onto a FAT 32 pendrive, inserted in the flash USB port.
b. Normalise all OC settings (reset to default). Still struggling with XMP as there is no XMP setting in my bios (I am using AMD 5900X). AMD has DOCP (= Intel's XMP) and I cannot find that in the bios either. Check with GG said to just go ahead with the FW update. Still worries me as I will be the one with the brick if something is not right and not them.
c. Shutdown and go bios. Select the FW update option and hopefully a peaceful 10-15 mins update. Ha.
Any important bits I overlooked? Thanks.
P/S Ignore the FW file name change to GIGABYTE.bin?
'Just built a new AORUS Master X v1.0 system. The firmware shows a blank space for the ethernet's MAC, and the device is missing in a new vanilla install of Win11. It appears to be faulty. It is enabled, was toggled, saved, and toggled, and the board reflashed, each without improvement. Should the MAC (always) be present?
Any ideas about adding the 'X' class Z790 boards to this thread?
