  • GA-EP45-DS4 problems?

    Hi

I have a small problem, well not really a small problem, anyway I realized that I wanted to build a computer on my own. So I bought all the components needed, the spec is as follows:

    Motherboard: GA-EP45-DS4
    Processor: Intel C2D E8500
    Memory: 4 CM2X1024-8500C5D
    Graphics card: GV-R485-512H-B
    PSU: NeoPower 550
    Harddrive: Seagate 250 GB

I then installed all the hardware and all the software. It worked fine in the beginning but after a while random reboots started to occur and ultimately it restarts after the boot, either when windows starts to load or even before.

    Thankful for help.

Clear Cmos and try again... checks the memory and the voltage...

Or.. you press and ''on''?... 1 second OFF and ''on'' again is normal....

Addier, thanks for the answer. I cleared the CMOS and i got to choose some default settings but when it rebooted it got to the windows load screen and then got a bluescreen...
      Any other ideas?

Try setting "tRFC" (Refresh To Act Delay) in the bios to 54-62 and "Performance Enhance" to Standard. Both in the M.I.T. Section of the bios.

Addier, what do you mean with ACHI? I recognize IDE as the old type of harddrives.
VorLonUK: I changed the value of "tRFC" to 56 and "Performance Enhace" to standard but I still got a blue screen :(

The AHCI/IDE Blue Screen, is if you say install Vista with the Hard drives in IDE mode and then decide at some later date to Set Your Hard drives to work in AHCI mode.

Moving on from that, i see you are saying Blue screen aswell as reboots - i missed that.
I assume you are getting an error message on the blue screen? If so what?

Ok, i haven't changed the hard drive mode so I assume it is standard.
The blue screen say something is wrong with the hard drive or that i got a virus. But earlier today I installed a new hard drive with a fresh windows install so I am a little confused.

                  Ah the plot thickens....!

When you say you installed a new Hard drive i assume you did a fresh install with that, ie with the Win XP/Vista installation CD/DVD?

Or Did you obtain a new hard drive with windows pre-loaded.

And it would be helpful to state exactly what the Blue Screen message says.

                    Re: GA-EP45-DS4 problems?

Yes i did a fresh install with a Win XP CD but I forgot to mention a vital piece of information. I got the very same error message on the hard drive I used before, so to clarify: this is new hard drive with a fresh Win XP install and I still get the error message therefore it seemed pretty odd to me.

The Blue Screen says: A problem has been detected and to stop further damage the computer has been shut down.
Check for viruses on you computer. Remove any newly installed harddrives or harddrive controllers. Check you hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated.
Run checkdisk /F and check for harddrive corruption and then restart the computer.

Have you changed anything in the bios? What you could do for starters, although it's most likely something else, is just load up the bios optimised defaults, save and reboot.

I will try to load the optimised defaults in BIOS tommorrow, and write how it turnet out.
I have to sleep now so i can get up to school. Thanks for the help VorLonUK!

I would recommend you start with this for stock >>>>

4x1 @ 1066 needs some tweaking, I dont think it is a hardware issue either. Also you could just install with one or two sticks just go get windows installed then work on your settings >>>>

I do also suggest you overclock to at least 402 FSB, so you can use the 400 MCH latch and 2.66 Multi for your ram as it will be much more stable

These timings for the ram are very loose and you should be able to boot fine with them unless the 333 MCH latch is a issue which it very well may be for 1066 ram. I have not played with it much yet

I tried the "optimised defaults" but it just rebooted as usual.
I set the bios according to Lsdmeasaps values and now it boots and I have installed some drivers, so far so good. I will write back later if anything occurs or if it seems to work.
                            In any case thanks Lsdmeasap.

Well optimised defaults will not work for 4x1, you need to set them, and change your voltages and likely trfc and static tread and set your ram voltage before you save and apply

Ahh, I see you got it. Sorry I type as I read too often.
