Re: Big Problems after attempting small OC on GA-EP43-DS3L

I updated to your recommended settings. I haven't run any tests yet, but it seems to be running fine.

I looked again and found that my Driving Strength Profiles are set for auto.

If I wanted to do a modest OC on my CPU/ram what's the best way to go about doing it to get the most out of it with my limited cooling?

Also, do you know what size CPU heat sink will fit on this motherboard or any good ones that will fit?

Re: Big Problems after attempting small OC on GA-EP43-DS3L

Always find time to test, as you can normally use better timings and less volts.

Well you need to see how fast you can go and what temps that is, then decide if you think you need to go lower for less voltage or not. Then all you do is tighten up the ram

Most any Heatsink would be good, all depends on your case and $$ you want to spend. ThermalRight Ultra 120 Extreme, Xigmatek, Tuniq Tower 120 are all good for around 40-60 bucks, but you need to look at them and your case and see what would fit

            1. Do you guys have any idea what was wrong with my computer or what short-circuiting those pins did?

            2. Is it possible to power-on my computer using a USB keyboard or mouse as opposed to an SP2?

Re: Big Problems after attempting small OC on GA-EP43-DS3L

All you did was clear the CMOS when you short the pins. Then you should have loaded and applied Optimized defaults and started over again

No, it has to be a PS/2 keyboard or mouse

Re: Big Problems after attempting small OC on GA-EP43-DS3L

Whenever I set the System Memory Multiplier to 4A and the Driving Strength profile to 1200MHz, my computer has some problems booting up, and CPU-Z does not show the correct timings for my ram. When I change the System Memory Multiplier to 3A and driving strength profile to 1066MHz, it seems to run much more smoothly, however, it is only going at 800MHz, and my ram is rated at 1066MHz. At 800MHz, it does show the correct timings in CPU-Z. Will running my memory at 800MHz as opposed to 1066MHz affect performance significantly? Is there anything I can do to make my memory run better at 1066MHz and actually show its correct timings?

Setting the system memory multiplier to Auto has the same affect as if I set it to 4A.

Re: Big Problems after attempting small OC on GA-EP43-DS3L

Did you try 4.00B as well. If so, just use 1066 driving strength and whatever memory multi works for you 4.0A or 4.0C

Without you posting your full settings you tried I cannot be sure why it would fail for you

You may need to raise your FSB or set some voltages, again I cannot be sure without seeing your settings

Yes you can run 800, but it will be slower

Please post for me your full settings you try that fail and I will advise you as to what I think may be the cause

Re: Big Problems after attempting small OC on GA-EP43-DS3L

I don't have 4.00B as an option apparently. :O Whenever I try 4.00A, 4.00C, or auto all of which give 1066, my computer fails to boot several times before finally starting. When it does finally start correctly, CPU-Z displays incorrect timings for my memory. It shows 5-7-7-20 when my memory is at 1066. Are these signs of stability issues? Here are my current full settings:

Actually, it appears to boot fine with the 4.00C multiplier after that initial struggle that occurred right after I changed my settings. It still shows my timings as 5-7-7-20, but it is booting up on its first attempt after power downs. Is it normal for a system to have problems booting only immediately after changing this multiplier?

Re: Big Problems after attempting small OC on GA-EP43-DS3L

Well a Double reboot is normal as it has to boot twice to switch straps and often times many other things. A double is normal, a triple is not and means incorrect settings, timings, voltages, ect. Your timings are 577-20 because You set something wrong and that is now in Auto

If you see a red warning box when you enter MIT then incorrect settings were used previously and all the settings you see in there are NOT being used, and the board is using Defaults from Optimized but showing your settings still.

You should be seeing and using A or B (For higher FSB) straps A for sure should be there as that is your stock CPU FSB.

I see you say you cannot see B, do you see C? How about if you manually set MCH Strap to 333 and then just choose 4.00 which would be 4.00B

Or just use 4.00A (And if you do not see it, then set MCH to 266/1066 and use 4.00 which would be 4.00A)

Did you ever load optimized defaults with this CPU installed, just wondering. Your CPU is only a 1066/266 CPU but with your FSB overclocked you should be able to choose B for sure but maybe not?

Yes, it is normal for things to fail as well if you choose the wrong (Too Tight) of a strap, you should use A for 266 FSB and B for 333. C is too tight for sure
