  • EP45-DS3R and Q6600 cannot OC at all

I have not overclocked for years (since my trusty celeron 300a). I built a new PC for my wife with no intention of overclocking but then the bug hit me and I have to try.

I have read over the other threads in this forum and attempted to change settings but anything over the stock settings seems to cause instability either in a non-boot POST or BSODs. The most I was able to get into Windows with was at 2.8 GHz but games like Bioshock and Crysis lock up. Currently I have put all BIOS settings back at default.

    My components:
    • Intel Q6600 with OCZ Vendetta2 cooler
    • Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R - BIOS F10
    • G.Skill PC2 6400 DDR2 2GB x 4 (8 GB)
    • VisionTek Radeon 4850 (stock cooling for now)
    • WD WD6400AAKS 640 GB HD
    • Corsair 650TX Power Supply
    • Vista 64

I feel that it is probably the memory timings to blame and it seems that having more than 2 DIMMs invites trouble. No problems at all temp wise.

Any suggestions for settings to use? From what I read I should be able to hit 3.2 without much issue and don't really want to push it more than that.

why the hell does ur wife need 8GB? xDDD
well 2GB*4 is tricky, the mobo will probably get a headache, u need to manually set timings so they will be stable, very loose as well, maybe ur pushing 2 far with the fsb, and not increasing enough voltage, u need 1.3 MCH VOLTAGE for 2GB*4 even more!!!(i think, the exclamation marks are for the drama!) try the settings LSDMEASAP posted in this thread:

the Static tRead Value. should be........................:10-8.

I couldn't resist with 4 GB of RAM being only $60. Plus I use this computer sometimes too.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll experiment and see what I get.

another thing is, if u try this settings, and it starts a "reboot cycle"
just go over every settings in the MIT and get them all to optimized defaults:
" i went to every option and did F7(load optimized defaults) not just to the main screen of M.I.T , even when i enter any advanced settings or channel settings i pressed F7, then i reboot, then i manually change timings and everything was fine :S"
this is a quotation from me how i fixed the reboot cycle :P.

Please post the highest bootable settings you have as of now and I will advise you for 3.2

As said above 8Gb does take some tweaking for sure, many things need to be adjusted.

This is Just a template I use to ask people their settings, pay no attention to the numbers in it, replace with yours
