  • EP35-DS3L Questions

    Hi there,

I'm having trouble finding a stable overclock. I'm running a q6600 and would like to hit 3.2ghz.

    My system specs:

    q6600 g0 vid 1.325
    tuniq-120
4gb crucial ballistix tracer pc6400 - ram is rated to do 44412 @ 400 or 55515 @ 500, but I doubt it can do 1066 within temperature requirements.
    8800 gt
    antec 700w psu

Temps are not a problem, I never go above 59c.

Currently I am running stock settings, but I would like to achieve something amongst these lines: (these are the settings I have tried and had fail in p95)

    Robust Graphics Booster Auto
CPU Clock Ratio x8 (or 9)
CPU Host Clock Control Disabled [Enabled]
CPU Host Frequency (MHz) 400 (or 356)
    PCI Express Frequency (Mhz) 100
    C.I.A. 2 disabled
    System Memory Multiplier (SPD) 2x
    DRAM Timing Selectable Manual

    Performance Enhance = [Standard]

    CAS Latency Time______5 [Auto]__________ ? 5 (or 4)
    Dram RAS# to CAS# Delay____5[Auto]_____ ? 5 (or 4)
    Dram RAS# Precharge Delay___5 [Auto]____? 5 (or 4)
    Precharge Delay (tRAS)____15 [Auto]______ ? 15 (12)
ACT to ACT Delay (tRRD)___3 [Auto]______ ? auto
Rank Write to READ Delay___3 [Auto]_____ ? auto
Write to Precharge Delay_____6 [Auto]____ ? auto
Refresh to ACT Delay______40 [Auto]________ ? auto
Read to Precharge Delay_____3 [Auto]_____ ? auto
Static tRead Value______4 [Auto]_________ 1-31 (tried 7-12 all fail p95)
Static tRead Phase Adjust___0 [Auto]_____ 1-31 auto

    System Voltage Control__Manual__
    DDR2 OverVoltage Control__ Normal +0.3
    PCI-E OverVoltage Control_ Normal
    FSB OverVoltage Control___ Normal +0.1
    (G)MCH OverVoltage Control Normal +0.2
CPU Voltage Control_______ Normal 1.435 (1.39 windows)

Limit CPUID Max. to 3.....................: [Disabled]
    No-Execute Memory Protect............: [Enabled]
    CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E)................: [Disabled]
    C2/C2E State Support....................: [N/A]
    x C4/C4E State Support..................: [N/A]
CPU Thermal Monitor 2(TM2) ...........: [Enabled]
    CPU EIST Function.........................: [Disabled]
    Virtualization Technology................: [Disabled]

Can you guys see anything I may have missed in the settings? I'm really stumped here, the p35-ds3r I used to have was much easier to tweak. I suspect it has to do with the settings that I have left at auto. Unfortunately I'm not sure where to find information to set them based on the ram equipped. Would appreciate your help thanks.

Forgot to add that I am using the newest bios, f6a - and also my ram configuration is 4x1.

      Re: EP35-DS3L Questions

Just so you know, Crucial is a Biggie on my Ga-P35 not compatible list. They do also Die very often. To save yourself some time and headaches, please at least test each stick in slot one, one at a time. At stock timings, speed, and voltages to be sure you do not have a Dead or dying stick in the mix

For 4x1 at 3.2 I would suggest these settings >>>

      Robust Graphics Booster Auto
      CPU Clock Ratio x8
CPU Host Clock Control Disabled [Enabled]
      CPU Host Frequency 402
      PCI Express Frequency (Mhz) 100
      C.I.A. 2 disabled
      System Memory Multiplier (SPD) 2x
      DRAM Timing Selectable Manual

      Performance Enhance = [Standard]

      CAS Latency Time______4
      Dram RAS# to CAS# Delay____4
      Dram RAS# Precharge Delay___4
      Precharge Delay (tRAS)____12

      ACT to ACT Delay (tRRD)___3-4
Rank Write to READ Delay___3-6 (May need a bit more)
      Write to Precharge Delay_____4-6-8
      Refresh to ACT Delay______52-62
      Read to Precharge Delay_____3-6
      Static tRead Value______7-10
      Static tRead Phase Adjust___Auto Always

      System Voltage Control__Manual__
      DDR2 OverVoltage Control__ Normal +0.3
      PCI-E OverVoltage Control_ Normal
      FSB OverVoltage Control___ Normal +0.1
(G)MCH OverVoltage Control Normal +0.2 << may need 2.5 but not likely
CPU Voltage Control_______ Normal 1.435 (1.39 windows) <<< May or may not need more, only your CPU can let you know

Limit CPUID Max. to 3.....................: [Disabled]
      No-Execute Memory Protect............: [Enabled]
      CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E)................: [Disabled]
      C2/C2E State Support....................: [N/A]
      x C4/C4E State Support..................: [N/A]
CPU Thermal Monitor 2(TM2) ...........: [Enabled]
      CPU EIST Function.........................: [Disabled]
      Virtualization Technology................: [Disabled]

And you should go back to a NON beta BIOS for sure >>>

4X1 is not a good combination for overclocking. You would be better off either finding the two fastest sticks (2X1) or selling them and going 2x2GB

Yeah, I have heard/read that from many different sources.

Tried to run at 4-4-4-52-4-7 last night, it went for 4h 5m before p95 failed. Will keep trying. ;P

            Re: EP35-DS3L Questions

Please post where you are so I can see what may be the cause. And yes the above is true. When you do post back please post the full table of settings that fail for you

And since you are playing with memory, you need to be testing with memtest86+ not P95. You use that ONLY after you are sure the ram is stable, otherwise you will not know if it is your CPU or ram causing failures

              Re: EP35-DS3L Questions

I would run 5-5-5 on the memory, not 4-4-4. The increase in CPU speed will improve performance over memory timings
