  • Sistem Overclock

Hello, i've bought last week a new computer, but went for the "customized sistem" and had each part taken from different places and stores etc.

After a week of "normal running" i thought to try a little overclocking on it.
But first, i noticed that my memory was actually running on the 800 frequency instead of 1066. Ok, so first i'll need to fix that and after it, if anybody wants to come with suggestions for the processor overclock and something else i'll be more then gratefull.

So, i've search some topics till i got lost and found out that i must manually set the 2.2 V on the I/O Voltage in Bios and also set the trfc to 52-56. Still, these were the suggestions for a 2x2gb kit and i have a 2x1Gb. I didn't played with the trfc beeing afraid not to ruin it.

    My sistem is :

    Intel Core2Duo E7200 @ 2,54 Ghz / 3 Mb buffer @ 1200 Mhz freq if i'm not wrong ( Socket 775 )
    Gigabyte EP45-DS3 Motherboard
    2x1GB DDR 2 @ 1066 Mhz Kingston Hyper X
    ATI Radeon EAH 3650 TOP 256 Mb DDR 3 PCI-E 2.0 - Video
Seagate Baraccuda 500 Gb Serial ATA 2 , 32 MbBuffer Hdd

Raidmax Smilodon Case with a pretty good airflow ( 2 side panel coolers 8 cm, 2 coolere front & rear 12 cm + hdd cooler , etc )
    470 W Thermaltake Power suply

So i have a brand from each main topic from here :D but..i'm a bigger fan of Gigabyte so i've posted here :)

My sistem temperature (BIOS) is 25 Celsius and CPU 31 ( box cooler with only 850 rpm ... )

I know you'll ask me more info but i want to say first that my bios is set to " Load Optimal Settings "

Do not set 2.2 for IO voltage! I like Raidmax as well!!

Here is some ranges for you to play with for stock CPU clocks and 1066 ram speed >>>>

As for overclocking I would suggest you first read thru the pinned guides In this section, and get to know your BIOS and board better. Then decide on what you want to run CPU at and I can give you some ranges to try

Mhm, i don't understand, i found on a different site

      "
At 1066 MHz DDR, the Kingston HyperX PC2-8500 DDR2 series offers the highest memory clock speed at latencies of 5-5-5-15 with a rated command rate of 1T. Of course, to reach that clock speed, Kingston recommends an I/O voltage of 2.2V.
At the standard 1.8V I/O voltage, Kingston rates these modules at 800 MHz DDR. If your motherboard cannot support the I/O voltage of 2.2V, then you may have to run at this speed.

So..how do i make my ram to run at 1066 without trfc and voltage modifications? ..

          Re: Sistem Overclock

Must be some translation error maybe. That Voltage comment is meant for "DRAM Voltage"

The ICH I/O is your South bridge and has nothing to do with ram and should be left alone, for sure not set to 2.2

I would set your ram to 2.1, as 2.2 is not likely needed

Get your PDF here, and it will be correctly worded >>>
          Kingston Technology Company - <img src=/hyperx/new_image_files/titlebar_title_ddr2.gif> -

Each module pair has been tested to run at DDR2- 1066MHz at a latency timing of 5-5-5-15 at 2.2V. The SPD is programmed to JEDEC standard latency 800Mhz timing of 5-5-5-18 at 1.8V. Each 240-pin DIMM uses gold contact fingers
          and requires +1.8V.

Thank you, still..i had that I/O set up for 2.2 V for an hour (didn't played anything or something that uses the CPU ) I hope it's still ok, now it's back to 1,8....

Ok, so i've changed my dram voltage to 2.2 (turned pink in the bios - is that ok ?) from 1.8. The value is still at 800 mhz. Is there anything else i must change? I have the F9 version of bios for EP45-DS3

You ideally need to back that off! If you do need a higher voltage than 1.8volts then 2.1volts really should be your limit.

Here's an OCZ explanation as to why...

Ok, so i've made all the bios settings above. I must say thow that not all the options were in my bios ( like the Advanced settings category, i don't think i missed it ) and gave the lower values from the one recomanded like...at the timiming control : twtr : 3-6 ( may need 8-12) i chose 3 or at the chanell static read value 7-10 i gave 7. Well...nothing's changed in everest or sandra. Still running at 800

                        Re: Sistem Overclock

ICH I/O Should be 1.55. I think that article (I Saw it online as well) and maybe some translations are getting you confused. Ram Voltage is not I/O, I hope you understand that

Ram, yes 2.1 would be better then 2.2, as 2.2 is not likely needed until you push way past 1066. Yes, pink is fine

All that in Auto is why you are still getting 800Mhz, what does CPU-z show you in the memory tab like image below (You should see 533 for 1066)? >>>>

Maybe you are looking at the wrong thing in everest and sandra? 1066 ram is 800MHz really, and I think you may be looking at the SPD information not the actual speed it is running at.

Here is exactly where in everest you need to look to see actual speeds your ram is running >>>>

                          Re: Sistem Overclock

Well, onestly it also confused me the big table you've given in the first post and didn't really knew if that is for overclocking or only for the frequency changing to 1066. So i've made some changes there and the sistem became unstable. ( i know what most of them do, i'm not really a beginer, i use pc's since 10 years ago ) But it's the first time when using 1066 rams and was expecting bios will auto configure them having the fact that i have a brand new gigabye mb (EP45-DS3). The weird thing now is that i have loaded back the optimal settings and cpu-z is showing some funny things like the FSB:DRAM = 2:3. Wasn't it supposed to be 1:1? And also it shows 400 mhz like ddr 1. The bad part is that i'm using program like everest ultimate but as i see is from 2005 but also sisoft sandra 2009 and i except one of them will show corectly in the end. I had some problems with my internet and previous posts but now i hope i can atach good pictures regarding my bios settings.

Loading the optimal , all i have to do is change ddram voltage to 2,1 and the sistem multiplier to 4.00 so it will become 800 1066 there. In rest, the trfs is already set to 4-50 value and most of the auto is as i would set it. I made only these settings and when testing it with cpu-z at memory the values would become 5-7-7-23 wich is very weird.

I will atach a pictures regarding my current cpu-z ( this is my load optimal settings from bios ) so it's like set to 800 mhz.

That's not weird at all. You will find that in some reviews even in the ones that praise Gigabyte auto settings. The board on auto is automatically loosening timings. Nothing wrong with that.

The bios on auto loosens timings or is more conservative so there is a better possibility of the system booting and running reliably.

You will need at least this set to run 1066, plus your ram voltage >>>>

CPU Host Frequency (Mhz) ............: 266Mhz
PCI Express Frequency (Mhz) .........:Set to 100

                              DRAM Performance Control
                              Performance Enhance...................: [STANDARD]
                              Extreme Memory Profile (X.M.P.).....: Disabled
(G)MCH Frequency Latch...............: [266] << 333 may work better with your ram
System Memory Multiplier ..............: 4.00 <<< This is what makes your ram run at 1066 (FSB X Memory Multiplier = Ram Freq ) So 266 x 4.00=1066

                              Memory Frequency (Mhz) ..............: 1066

Right now In your CPU-z Image you can see 2:3 because you are not running 1:1, Nor are you running 1066 ram speed you are running 800Mhz Ram with the 3.00 Multiplier

To get 1:1 you would need FSB of 533, which means you would have to use your lowest CPU multiplier and a overclock for sure
