GA-P35-DS3 - manual FSB Clock change problem

Hi !

I have a GA-P35-DS3 motherboard, C2D E4600 2,4GHz, 2x2GB DDR2 OCZ DUAL, Palit Geforce 8600GT.
In BIOS -> Inteligent Tweaker i have the following options:
CPU Host Clock Control: Disable
CPU Host Frequency: 200 (read only)
CPU Clock Ratio: 12x

OK - i want to increse FSB so I turn on CPU Host Clock Control .
CPU Host Frequency is now enabled, but at the moment I'm changing nothing - still I have a 200 MHz FSB.
Save and Exit BIOS, restart...post screen...restart...BIOS restored
previous settings :(
I can't manualy change FSB !

The same problem is with PCI Express Frequency. If I manually change
this option form "Auto" to 100 (default !), I have a same problem, restart and
restored settings :(

I have a newest BIOS. Does somebody have similar problem?

Well I suggest a few things for 2x2GB that is likely your problem, you need some voltage adjustments for that to run and stably boot. First Be SURE you turn off C1E, TM2, EIST, and C.I.A.2

And you may need some CPU voltage bump as well, I have never used that CPU so you will have to try to guess what is better, just add a bit more until It boots. Dont go over 1.45ish though, that would be the upper range and not needed until you were at the high end of your CPU.

I do not know your ram specs so I used 5-5-5 timings CAS timing, if yours is 4 use that. And I do suggest nothing should be on AUTO except for a few things, which I dont think your BIOS has

Add or remove anything needed and post back what you are trying after trying these suggested settings.

It's doesn't work for me :(
In auto mode everything is working fine. I don't understand why I can't change "CPU Host Clock Control" option from Auto Mode (200 MHz) to Manual (200 MHz) ! This option only has the influence on option FSB clock rate, which I can change manually.

Do you see most of the above settings? If not on the main page of the BIOS hit Control + F1 then go into MIT

You MUST make the MCH voltage adjustment for your board to post with 2x2GB sticks, aside from that you did not reply very well. I mean I have no clue what your issue is if you do not post back your settings you are trying, If you want a image will be fine as well.

When you change to manual, what are you trying to run your memory on Frequency wise?

On this settings it's all OK. After I change memory settings to suggested by you still everything is working fine. But a change option "CPU Host Clock Control" to Enabled is critical (FSB is still 200 MHz !). After this change the computer is doing the restart and restoring previous setting.

Edit: After first restart (after I save new settings in BIOS) the memory is correctly detecting in POST menu. The restart is coming before detecting IDE/SATA devices.

This is not OK, 6 will likely not work with 2x2GB sitcks let alone 3. Change to 7 or 8 then try enable on the CPU host clock control. Until you get your settings right it will keep rebooting and giving you defaults

6 will only work on Very expensive ram, and or at very LOW frequency

Thanks for help, but still doesn't work :(
I am afraid that it is not a memory problem, maybe I have a broken motherboard, maybe a bug in BIOS ?
It's strange that nobody has the similar problem :(

Yes, i'm trying your settings.
On Static tRead Value=10 computer is not up. I changed this value to 6.
But I still can't change CPU Host Clock Control to Manual. Computer is starting, POST: Graphics card, memory, info: "memory runs at Dual Channel Interleaved". Here should be detecting IDE devices but computer is restarting.

The same problem is with "PCI Express Frequency" - I can't change from Auto to 100 MHz :(

Is the computer double or triple booting when you hit save and apply? If so you still do not have the settings correct?

Have you tried booting with only 1 stick of ram in slot 1? And if you have it try only one stick of 1gb.

If still no luck, take everything out but 1 stick of ram. Meaning hard drives, optical drives, and graphics card remove them and see if it still is rebooting, if not then it is your graphics card or one of those sticks of ram is bad. Or possibly your power supply is going bad. If one stick works with nothing else connected and it does not reboot on you, shut down and hook up your hard drive only and see if it is still ok. And so on until you find the problem

What PSU is it? And have you used this system before or are you just building it?

On one stick (2GB) works fine (tested every memory socket and both stick - it's OK) - I can change FSB ! :)
Unfortunetely, on 2 sticks (all possible combinations - Single channel, dual channel) it doesn't work :(

Then it sounds like one stick is bad, can you test them both by themselves with memtest86+ and see which it is?

It still also could be that you do not have the right settings, or that your NB is to hot. Can you touch it for more then 10 seconds?

Both sticks are OK. Singli on every memory slot works fine, but i can't use two at once (Single Channel and Dual Channel).

Well then you likely still are not trying the right settings or you NB is getting too hot. can you touch it for more then 10 seconds after 2 sticks have been in there running not overclocked?

If not, then you need a Fan on it, and or new thermal paste (Which I suggest either way) mine was only partially covered, and that was way to thick as well
