    Re: Z87 Extreme 4 issues

Oh, okay. I just quickly read through that. The sound on this is supposed to be pretty good is what I had heard. I don't care if there is sound one way or another in UEFI.

That is a weird issue. I have never had my speakers on when using the UEFI, and have never had a lockup, not sure if the sound is enabled or not. I'll need to try that...

EDIT: Ok, tried the UEFI with speakers on, did not lock up on me, but that was one instance. Hmm, what a highly useful (less) feature, and what if you do not have a level control on your speakers, etc, and use the Windows level control? LOUD as can be if the level is not reduced beforehand.

Instead of spending time and effort on that, why not get the CPU core voltage display correct in the UEFI and A-Tuning? Not to mention the other bugs in A-Tuning...

The Z87 Extreme6 P1.60B: [URL]http://download.asrock.com/TSD/Z87 Extreme6(P1.60B)WIN.zip to run in Windows does not work for me.

Downloaded and unzipped file, ran as Administrator on the C: drive, a small black Window appears for a fraction of a second, and then disappears.

Nothing else happens. Checked Task Manager, nothing running. Restarted PC anyway. Tried that twice, no change in the UEFI version.

I'm using Windows 8, if that makes a difference.

These are bios updates. Unzip to an empty flash drive and restart computer.

Since when does a .exe BIOS update file need to be put on a USB flash drive? That is the Instant Flash method that does not use a .exe file:

Dunno -- worked for me when I did it that way. No freezeups yet.

So you put that unzipped file on a USB flash drive, restarted the PC, and then what happened? You did nothing else, or saw nothing displayed on your screen besides the usual boot screens?

Did you check what BIOS version you now have?

It's a bit obtuse, but you need to unzip the file onto a flashdrive (mine was blank) and run it in Windows. The program will run quickly and prompt for a reboot, during reboot your computer should update the BIOS. For what its worth, I plugged it into the USB2 port. It worked on Windows 8 for me.

I had the BIOS freezing problem with 1.20 & 1.40 on the Extreme6, but it looks like P1.60B has resolved it for me--at least it hasn't cropped up during four boots to the BIOS and one change to settings yet. Previously all it took was changing from one section to another.

Thanks for the info, but how did you ever figure out the procedure? Obtuse is an understatement. Emily said it was a Windows-type of updater in her last post.

I tried it again on a USB flash drive, same result as before. Frankly, I don't have the freezing issue in the UEFI, and was hoping other fixes were added to this update.

Given the non-standard, non-documented update method, I'm not spending anymore time with it. I hope it works for you and others.
