  • White triangle is for ?

    Quik Question:

That dang white triangle on the Z77 Pro 4 mb- fan connectors, what does it signify ?
Manual does not clarify this , searches here did not come up with anything definitive.

Pin-1 of the header. Be it fan, USB, CIR, HD_AUDIO1, IR1 etc etc
#1 - Please, when seeking help, enter the make and model of ALL parts that your system is comprised of in your Signature, or at least the model #'s in your System Specs, then "Save' it.
____If you are overclocking, underclocking, or undervolting any parts, informing us of this and their values would prove beneficial in helping you.

#2 - Consider your PSU to be the foundation from which all else is built upon. Anything built upon a weak foundation is poorly built.

If you were to look at the manual where it describes the individual headers(ex pg 34+35 of the oline manual), there is a "1" designating Pin-1 of most of the headers that correlates with this mystical white triangle.

Please, refer to the manual section titled "Onboard Headers and Connectors". Your questions can mostly be answered in the manual. Clearly defined and enumerated in the manual.

Thanks as always for the above info wardog,
I have searched the manual -Which is always my first go-to.
but it only noted the cpu fan header pin #.
Can we say then that pin 1, no matter what fan header, is always Ground ?

Attch'd is the screen shot from the manual
You can see that the only pin numeration is on the CPU Fan connector
The chassis and other fan headers do not have this pin layout marked.
Hence the source of my queries

Re: White triangle is for ?

Fan headers have the upright positioning key/tab that if properly attached to with the fans connector can not be mis-attached.

Ok, I suppose someone might try to bend the friggin upright plastic outta the way ...............

Just what the heck are you attempting(or have attempted if the case may be) that you are dead nut on this topic?

Want to wire up a couple of cut fan connectors to fans with just leads, adding one into this MB /case
To be sure about the correct wiring, that's all.

Re: White triangle is for ?

That makes sense sturoc, and pin 1 is always ground for a fan header. For other connectors, like USB, pin 1 is not ground.

Three pin and four pin fan headers are matched for pins 1 through 3, fortunately.

                      Sorry, had to sleep.

Yea, that makes sense sturoc. Should've come right out first with that :)

So pardon what may appear as apprehension(none intended!) in my answering in the previous posts. I was and did answer you, just not what clear on what it was you were after there.

ie: the white triangle goose chase, instead of actual pin/header clarification/enumeration

If anything, it did make me think 'did i ask this question correctly ?'
