  • Queston regarding SATA ports w/dvd drive that doesn't like AHCI

Hey all, wanted to post here before I upgraded... So I found out my DVD drive refuses to boot off my windows 7 DVD while in AHCI mode, works fine in IDE mode. So my question is this: Should I install my DVD drive into sata ports SATA3_A0 and A1, and set those to IDE mode... then install my SSD drive to the other SATA 3 ports since they can be set to AHCI mode independently? Then I would throw my normal HDDs into the SATA 2 ports. Thanks for any advice! :)

This is for an Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 motherboard btw.

I've never had to do it myself but that should work OK, you seem to have tried it already w/o problems.
    Cheers,

If it works this way, use it this way. It's not recommended to connect your SSD or HDD's to the ASmedia controlled Sata II ports anyways, for best performance. I imagine they could handle any performance a DVD player could throw at them.
