    Re: VGA problem with H61?

There might be a problem with the 6-pin psu power cable that connects with your video card.
If you power supply has a 2nd 6-pin power cable, test with the 2nd power cable.

Make sure that your 24-pin and 4-pin power cables are fully seated on the motherboard AFTER you have turned off your system, unplugged the psu cable from the wall outlet and then press and hold the front panel on/off switch for 20 seconds to discharge the residual electrical power in your system.

I hope you follow that you follow this procedure every time you remove and/or install any hardware or change any wires or cables.

      Oh poop!!!
It sounds like there's a weird driver issue with your 9800 Gt and the 296.10 drivers.
Which Nvidia driver version is in your Dell computer where you said that the 9800 GT didn't have any problems?

My 7600 GT video cards have no problem with both of my older systems.
Maybe it's time for a video card upgrade.

      **edit**
I just checked and I'm running 275.33 drivers with my 7600 GT in my P35 system.

        Re: VGA problem with H61?

The older computer is running 296.10 aswell which is odd..ill try installing the 275.33 drivers and see how that goes. I also tried another 6 pin psu plug, it was a no-go. Id love to upgrade my VGA but I spent most of my financial aid buying new parts :(

          Re: VGA problem with H61?

If the 285.27 drivers work OK with your 9800 GT, I'd leave it there.
With newer video cards, updating the graphics drivers often helps with improved performance in some games.
I don't know if this applies to older cards like ours.
If you read the full release notes for any driver version, you'll find bug fixes and often find a list of improvements for some video card models.
It's possible the the next WHQL driver release will be fine with your card.

Save up your money and spend about $100 or more to buy a newer card that will probably run circles around your 9800 GT.
I bought my second MSI Hawk GTX 460 for about $130 (a Newegg special promo) about 8 months before they went EOL (end of life).
It was a MASSIVE improvement in graphics performance, even on my older Dual Core systems.

There are good buys to be had year 'round, and many killer deals show up between Thanksgiving and x-mas.

            Re: VGA problem with H61?

The 285.27 drivers work only when I have onboard graphics set in bios, if I try and set it to pci-e in bios and plug it into the 9800gt it still hangs lol. Guess ill just wait abit and buy a new VGA..I just hope it doesnt have this issue too.

              Re: VGA problem with H61?

I really think its an intel ME driver. That's probably where windows is getting info from motherboard chipset. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to uninstall it. Maybe someone else knows?Or maybe you can just run it while the bios is set to onboard. If the card performs, then no harm in that.
