Re: Help Noobie with SATA3 install

    Hi welcome to the Forums,

I would plug the SSD into Sata3_1(white port), plug your hdd into sata2-0 (blue port).

Enter the bios/uefi and set both sata2 and sata3 ports to ahci. Save and exit. Renter the bios/uefi and make sure the hdd boot order has the SSD first in list.

If your installing win7 no drivers will be needed during the install as win7 has them built in. Just make sure you select to install on the SSD not the hdd.

After Win7 install, install all other drivers as you have listed. If you want to check for more recent drivers you can go the MFR website of the device and see if they have it listed.

The latest bios/uefi is 1.70 according to ASrocks website there are some notes with it see here ASRock > Products > Motherboard > H61iCafe > Download. To me they look to only pertain to the Ivy Bridge cpus that are being released shortly.

Also if you could please put a Detailed list of your hardware in your forum signature as this well better help us to help you. You can use my sig as a example.

Re: Help Noobie with SATA3 install

Thanks for the reply. It was very helpful.
The major thrust of my question was about the SATA3 driver. How do I install it? F6? Run the Setup.exe post OS install? When do I change the BIOS to ACHI? What are all the references to IDE/RAID/SCSI? Still a little confused!

I think (hope) that I added my build specs to my signature.

      Thanks.

Re: Help Noobie with SATA3 install

Yes no need to press F6 doing win7 install. If you want to install the drivers after windows is installed then run the setup.exe.

You set the bios/uefi to ahci before you install windows. If you install windows while it set to ide or raid you will have to make registry changes to allow you to switch them with out having to re-install.

IDE is legacy mode back before sata. Raid is well raid see here Standard RAID levels - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Scsi is a whole another type of connection. You would need a add in card what has a scsi type connector on it. Ahci was intraduced with sata see here Advanced Host Controller Interface - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
