I just put together a new box for folding:
Asrock Extreme 3 Gen 3 (bios 1.30)
2700k
Noctua NH-D14
2x4gb ram G.SKILL F3-17000CL11D-8GBSR (installed in A2 and B2)
CORSAIR HX750
SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ
Old Microsoft PS2 mouse
Old Lite-On USB keyboard
Using onboard video attached via DVI to old
Lite-On SATA DVD burner iHAS 124-04
I intend to install Ubuntu and use the box as a dedicated folding box (folding@home).
The problem is that when I boot the system, it is excruciatingly slow. It takes several minutes to just come up to the UEFI splash screen and from 3-5 minutes just to boot into UEFI (bios). Then, once in UEFI, the mouse or any keyboard inputs take an extremely long time to register, anywhere from 30 seconds to a couple minutes for each input. I have not been able to even get to the point of being able to install an OS. I am far from an expert, but I have built dozens of computers over the past 20 years, so I am also far from a rank beginner. This has me stumped. I have tried to work within the UEFI bios and have tried the default settings, set the memory to XMP, set the Storage SATA Mode to AHCI (tried IDE too). Nothing seems to allow the system to function. The mouse moves very erratically, with a huge delay between input and mouse movement. The same goes for keyboard inputs. Right now I consider the system absolutely unusable. Anybody have any ideas?
