hmmm maybe I am wrong I would thought it would be in red or have a x next to it saying its not. I did not read up but followed LSD diskpart format directions. I just assumed 1024k - ok in green was "OK". We all know what happens when you assume. LOL

Maybe boondocks can look at his when he is done installing to double check.

I don't see anything wrong with using the method I posted since the sector count shoud be accurate, but I did try that program on my main machine, it did not say 1024 but it did say OK. This is on my Force GT 90 SSD. I pulled it straight out of the box and installed it so it's never been tampered with and should be fine. Windows is pretty good with SSD's as long nothing else tampers with them.

But like you say, sometimes you just don't know what to believe, especially if you start having problems.

If you read though the last link in my sig. They way I did was connect the ssd to the sata3 port boot off my existing hdd and then used diskpart from the command prompt to format and partition it. I think I had to use Disk Manager just to give it a drive letter.

BTW I did read though most of the post in the thread and it does look like possibly bad drive or compatibility with your bios. Sorry to hear, my drive worked flawlessly out of the box knock on wood.

I am thinking about formatting both drives and installing windows fresh again with letting windows 7 install format and partition the ssd as the recovery partition did not get created on my ssd. I think because it already existed on the hdd. Then seeing how thinks show up.

I ran the AS benchmark on the F60 and it shows 1024-OK in green letters.

Ok after a little google searching this is what I found. If its green and - OK then its "OK" if its red and bad then its "BAD"

LSD, the SSD is not being recognized. The drive is now empty except for updated firmware and formatting. (reread my last post please) and I no longer have Windows installed on the WD drive either.
I will go and try again, I just jumpered the CMOS and I will see what it's doing this morning.

EDIT: my bad loose connection I must have jiggled something last night under the drive cage. Windows installing in RAID mode on SSD.

Ya, I knew that, that is why I was asking for further information from you on how it appeared in windows. Nice to see it was just a loose cable :)

I see you can't swtich to AHCI, no worries, stay on RAID. Or you could always clean install AHCI again, if that fails, then your disk may be partially damaged or incompatible with the board/BIOS as mentioned. I've seen disks, even HDD, not be able to run AHCI but could run RAID or IDE, and it's often a damaged disk.

lsd is that what you use to 4k align a disk?(Diskpart > Create Partition Primary Align=1024)

Yes, here's how I align


Boot to CD, choose repair, then advanced, then command prompt:

Diskpart commands to align and create a partition

Diskpart >List Disk

(Here note the Disk # you want to align and create on based on size of drive, if only one drive then you are fine disk 0 will be the one you need)

Diskpart > Select Disk 0
(Or other disk number if need be)

Diskpart > List Partition
(Just to ensure you have the correct disk listed and no partitions are found)

Diskpart > Clean
(Removes any previous partition table information, and or MBR's)

Diskpart > Create Partition Primary Align=1024
(To create and align your partition)

Diskpart> Format Quick FS=NTFS
(To Quick format-NTFS)

Diskpart > List Partition
(To check partition was created properly and aligned)

Diskpart > Active
(To set partition Active for OS Install)

Diskpart > Exit

Done!

Clean and simple for those who have only one disk connected and need no explanations

Diskpart > Select Disk 0
Diskpart > Clean
Diskpart > Create Partition Primary Align=1024
Diskpart > Format Quick FS=NTFS
Diskpart > List Partition
Diskpart > Active
Diskpart > Exit

What I did mate was to enable ahci and then check the boot priority as when you change modes it will change the drive priority so select then reboot back into bios to check if its listed and go from there. Hope this helps

Thanks, legacyrs, I always reboot and check the boot list. Since I was working with only the SSD and a ODD there wasn't much to screw up.

Just got the new SSD, will stick it in and see what happens.

New Crucial 64GB has Windows installed in AHCI mode and everything seems to be working OK. Drivers installed, working on a few necessary programs.

Should I now start a separate thread for the shutdown issue?? This one has gotten pretty big.......

Thanks, Ace. That board just sure didn't like that F60, but I'll put it in the wife's P67 machine, which is the mobo where I first installed it. I could be wrong, but I think it will work there again. No testing has turned up anything wrong with it.

Heard from Asrock today by phone. Wasn't much to do about the SSD problem since I've already swapped another one. But at least they did call. Said they were very busy right now.

Great to hear the new SSD works properly!!

It could be incompatibility, or it could be a partially damaged SSD, you'll know when you try AHCI for the wife
