  • Asrock z68 extreme7 gen3 videocard not recognized by BIOS

    Ok so, my motherboard is not recognizing my EVGA-GTX560 Ti video cards. After much lurking and reading over several different threads I have came to this conclusion. Can somebody please help me out? I really need the help and would even be willing to pay the person that helps me fix this problem.

    I guess it might also be worth noting that my onboard video is working and I was able to install windows 7 ultimate.

      Can you test your GTX 560 Ti in another computer system to verify that your video card is OK?
      Does windows Device Manager recognize your card?

        There are two cards and both have been tested. I can not test it in another computer but I did swap the cards around. They are also not appearing in device manager.

            Nope, would 1 faulty card cause both of them to not work? I'm not even getting any recognition whatsoever from either of them. The fans are not even spinning up on them.

              Re: Asrock z68 extreme7 gen3 videocard not recognized by BIOS

              Maybe one card is causing the problem.
              You might also have a bad pci-e slot.
              Don't make any assumptions. You need to test one thing at a time to narrow down what is causing the problem.
              You might need to test each video card in each of the slots.
              ALWAYS unplug your power supply before removing or installing video cards or any other hardware.
              With you power supply unplugged, you should then press and hold the front panel on/off switch for 10 seconds to remove residual electrical charges.

                Re: Asrock z68 extreme7 gen3 videocard not recognized by BIOS

                Well, I'm back from doing what you told me to do. I did notice that the fans on the videocards were actually engaging afterall, I dont know if that means anything. None of the PCI-E slots were doing anything with any of the cards. I tried both monitor ports on the cards in each slots on the MOBO and nothing. I even went into the BIOS and made sure that this PCI-E ports were the main video adapter or whatever the setting was on the motherboard. I tried looking around to see if there was a way to disable the onboard video to see if that would do anything but couldn't find anything like that.

                I guess it might also be worth noting that I am using a 750 watt power supply?

                  We can best help you when you include a detailed hardware list in your forum signature that includes brands and models numbers of all components. You can see from my signature the level of detail that is most helpful. Obnoxious colors are not required ;)

                  The spinning video fans indicate that your cards are getting electrical power, but that is all.

                      Re: Asrock z68 extreme7 gen3 videocard not recognized by BIOS

                      Check your motherboard user manual to see if there are any special bios settings that are required for enabling pci-e video cards and/or disabling on-board graphics output.

                      OK, a little too much detail.
                      It's best to put your hardware list in your forum signature, that way we can quickly refer to your most recent post to confirm what hardware you have. Very often a thread like this can have many posts and it's a PITA to have to scroll back through the thread to find your hardware information. Many of the active forum contributors can be working on a lot of threads at the same time and some threads have somewhat similar hardware setups.

                      To list your system components in your signature:
                      --> Settings tab (upper right corner of web page)
                      --> select Edit Signature
                      --> enter your hardware components (brand, model, etc.)
                      --> include your bios version
                      --> preview
                      --> Save when complete
                      Be sure to include your bios version, motherboard version, power supply, cpu heatsink/fan setup and the model numbers of all components.
                      It helps if you provide a link to your ram's full specifications.

                      It's best if you simplify your list by deleting the "features" part of the description. Usually brand and models are sufficient.
                      I'm reasonably sure that you meant to say "cpu cooler" instead of "power supply" for your Zalman.

                          Re: Asrock z68 extreme7 gen3 videocard not recognized by BIOS

                          In addition to the advice offered by profJim did you plug in two pci-express 6pin connectors to each card that is required as well as a molex connector from your PSU to the spot on the board just above the PCIe Slot 1?
                          As far as any special UEFI settings In the Northbridge Configuration page the default Primary Graphics Adapter is set to PCIe the other settings are onboard (IGU) or PCI. Verify that PCIe is selected as the BOOT Graphic Adapter...

                          In testing 1 card at a time the card you would only use PCIe slot # 2 to verify that the single card works.

                          For SLi or using 2 cards then PCIe slots 1 and 4

                          "1. If you want to install one graphics card only, we suggest installing it
                          on PCIE2 slot; in this situation, PCIE1, PCIE4 and PCIE6 slots will be
                          disabled.
                          2. Only PCIE2 slot supports up to Gen 3 speed. To run the PCI Express
                          in Gen 3 speed, please must install the Ivy Bridge CPU. If you install
                          the Sandy Bridge CPU, the PCI Express will run only at PCI Express
                          Gen 2 speed.
                          3. In CrossFireXTM mode or SLITM mode, please install PCI Express x16
                          graphics cards on PCIE1 and PCIE4 slots. Therefore, both these two
                          slots will work at x16 bandwidth.
                          4. In 3-Way CrossFireXTM or 3-Way SLITM mode, please install PCI
                          Express x16 graphics cards on PCIE1, PCIE4 and PCIE6 slots.
                          Therefore, PCIE1 slot will work at x16 bandwidth while PCIE4 and
                          PCIE6 slots will work at x8 bandwidth."

                            As far as any special UEFI settings In the Northbridge Configuration page the default Primary Graphics Adapter is set to PCIe the other settings are onboard (IGU) or PCI. Verify that PCIe is selected as the BOOT Graphic Adapter...
                            Did this already and everything else is in and everything is snugly fit where its supposed to be. The power connector that goes directly into the mobo for the pci-express stuff is inserted as well. Everything is plugged in properly.

                              See my post above and test 1 card at a time in PCIe Slot #2 to determine if it's detected and works. If both work in PCIe Slot #2 and still do not get detected and work in PCIe slots 1 and 4 then the fault is with those PCIe slots and thus there is nothing further you can do except RMA the board
