  • Windows 7 Beta Expire > Upgrade Option?

Do you think upon expiry of Windows 7 Beta, beta users will be given the option of upgrading
to a full license, or will they get the 'thank you for participating - OS now unusable' message?

Re: Windows 7 Beta Expire > Upgrade Option?

Typically it's 'thank you for participating - OS now unusable'.

That is not the case. There is an upgrade path to the RC1 Which is due for release shortly and hopefully from there Umm I dont know. But I do know that when the RC1 Upgrade is out and done the expiry will be I think April 1 2010 or something so Yeah. I love windows 7

I heard the RC1 expires in June 2010, but still, that's a time bombed OS. That's exactly what I said it was, "thank you for participating, OS now unusable". Once you hit that date, if you haven't gone out and bought it, your screwed if it's your only running OS. I think beta testers should be given one free license.

It would be fairly unwise to run a Beta OS as your Sole OS now Wouldnt it??
I bloody Agree, Beta Testers should be giving free Licences. Ive reported so much stuff with windows 7 and giving a lot of feedback to hopefully improve things.

You'd be surprised I think how many people ditched their Vista or XP install for the Win7 beta. I choose to multiboot with it instead though, just in case :p

Yeah I know what your saying, windows 7 is truly great. Im Currently Multibooting Windows 7 64Bit, Windows Vista Ultimate 64Bit & 32 Bit and Windows XP32bit in the search for the perfect gaming OS that doesnt have NVIDIA Driver crashes. However, I am nearly at the conclusion that My Stock 8800GT is dying. Cause all the OS stuff up. Only a couple more days till my HD4850 arrives.

I was only joking about free windows 7, but morally I think M$ should give people with vista windows 7 for free because Vista is so poor. Is this fact that after July 09 u will get a free upgrade? This would be great because Im due for a new Work Laptop about then.

Well I guess. Still think they should just ditch vista and move everyone to windwos 7. Its not like it really cost them hundreds of dollars per disk to make hey!

I am not a big Microsoft Fan but this is business, yes Vista was a failure, the business community never embraced it at all, but I dont think that all their R&D should be free, I always support developers that make software I use, and that includes MS, there is always Linux if you dont like the Windows platform. People will pay and they know it, personally just from testing the new RC1 of Windows 7 I think it will be a success, but thats just my opinion. all the software that works with Vista 64bit works with Windows 7, 64bit, Ultimate in both versions. I am looking forward to it going final. It will give me an excuse to build a new computer with the Corei7965 and 2 SSDs in Raid 1.

I agree with you that windows 7 will be a success. It runs so well and does 99% of things right. I have an opinion about free upgrades though. If I went out and bought a new car and the wheels kept falling off, and it happened to every other car of the same model, id expect the manifacture to fix the problem. Even Cars out of Warranty if there is discovered to be a flaw they recall them and fix the problem. But If My wheels kept falling off and they just said to me Ill just have to buy another newer model to solve the problem then well I wouldnt like that. This is exactly what Microsoft is doing. They dont even care about fixing vista, they are just going to release W7 and expect everyone to Upgrade again to that to fix the problem with vista. From what ive read of SP2 for vista its nothing major in the performance sector. FFS After SP1 you can still delete your recycle bin. You cant in W7 . On this topic, Microsoft are Fraking up older software like Office 2003 and Office XP to make you buy office 2007. Example. After a recent update outlook crashes upon closing on Windows XP pro. You send an error report which in turn replies to you to purchace Office 2007. WTF. On vista it hangs upon closing and sometimes crashes on closing. IDK WTF they are thinking. I hate it when they send out an update that Fraks a working PC up. Dont even get me started on SP3 for XP. For some reason a large majority of the PC's I am responsible for refused to take the Microsoft Update Version of SP3 or even the Redistributed version. Just crapped out towards the end and you end up having to do a system restore because it ends up BSOD. I mean come on. Microsoft would have so much money, isnt it about time someone played fair, and admit they totally Fraked up and say sorry, heres your free copy of Windows 7.
