I'll check out your link. Glad to have someone to chat about this with! Most people I know don't even have a clue on what I'm talkin about with Email and spam, Hell I'm just learning it right here at Tweaktown thank you very much

Did you know that this one time, I was so bent about a certain kind of email, (this is when I really didn't know ANYTHING over 2 yrs ago) that I ended up tracking down the person who mailed it??, and more or less figured out the prossess at the same time.

One thing that I haven't dove into yet is when We got sent porn that came from our own email address. I reported it and I'm not sure but I don't think to many more came, just very very simular email names, like one letter away. And This is our important email address.:devil: :cheers:

I don't claim to know the ins and outs of the process, but I think I get a bit of it.

One thing that really has me baffled is the ones I recieve that don't have my address in any way shape or form:confused:
Is there some kind of "includer" or something they are using?
Like, everybody in this domain gets it or what?

I know what you mean about having someone to talk with who at a minimum understands a basic or 2.

Over time, I've had several rather alarmed people come to me and say, "I got an email last night from demon, is it a virus? Should I delete it?".

Oh no, was that demon spelled D - A - E - M - O - N?

Sometimes this computer stuff is quite entertaining

but only when it's not being a pain in the *^%#

I've been using the crazy broswer ever since I got it from you, I must like it. I also like Opera too, I like to make skins for it.

I haven't tried the last link you gave me yet, looks difficult, well at the moment anyway!

I tried Spybot a little, but it seems a little scary 2 me

You've got the greatest toolbox ever invented right in front of you. So not using it would be about the most pointless thing you could possibly do.

I just got this feeling you are going to go far because you seem to have an inquisitive mind and a can-do attitude.

Careful____once you start tweaking it is awfully hard to stop!

I think you're just a bit turned about regarding Spybot though --- it is to help get rid of the scary things.

Of course, not everything it turns up on a default scan is bad depending on the situation - some of those recently used documents lists it brings up I actually do use from time to time.

As someone brought up in another post, I remember Opera Browser, someone once told me Opera sucks,well I used it awhile, but started to play with others, well, I looked at it again, andit sure does have aa pop up stoper.But the guy who mentioned it,was regarding its quality as far as errors in page goes. he said something like "if there is something wrong with a page, it won't load up" someting like that. So here I go with the multi tasking thing, (not again, just with that one) I'm a multitasker, sometimes it helps, and sometimes it don't, like miss posting ( post in wrong post and/ or wrong forum

This spybot thing, yes it stilll does scare me. I tried it again yesturday, and at the end it had a mess, something about if I do something or other, all my info is ganna be collected and basicly sent to others. I looked it up in my find file, and it said that that paticulary program actually comes in spybot. Now If, if thats true, why do I want to use it? And I don't know how or what to have it fix.
At the end of it, it has a list of things, some of things have checks next to them, and some don't. So unless you can tell me what I'm looking for and/or what to fix, I'm not ganna use it.
This is a program that I tried and like many others, I didn't understand, its not going to be on my to be continued list.

I had to think about this one for a while, and I believe I know what you are referring to.

When you allow Spybot Search & Destroy to alter your system, such as removing adware, etc. etc. it puts those files into a holding area so to speak. This area is certainly within the Spybot Program Folder which you will find with listed with all your other programs in the Program Files folder.

I believe it uses the "Recover" folder for this purpose.
If you have a program which contains adware or some other nastiness and Spybot removes the nasty, and because of this the program will no longer work --- you can use the "Recover" option in Spybot to put the nastiness back so the program will work again.

Or, by using the "Recover" option, you can view all the stuff you removed -- because Spybot has saved it. It isn't actually actively doing anything at that point, Spybot has simply placed it there in case for some reason you may change your mind and wish to put it back. But the nasty app is no longer spying, throwing ads at you, or whatever it was designed to do.

Not only does the "Recover" option allow you to put the offending stuff back_____you can also use it to view, and permanently delete the offensive part after you are certain it isn't preventing anything else from functioning as it should.

So in other words, say I download program "X".
Now I just love Program "X", but it has this thing I don't like -- an adware "Z".
Spybot can find adware "Z", and put it in quarantine____it won't have ads sent to me anymore.
Cool!!!
But now, when I try to use Program "X" it won't work, because the people who made it told it to find adware "Z" and to play stupid if it can't find it.
So, if program "X" is the most wonderful piece of software on the planet, and I just can't live without it. I can use Spybot's "Recover" option and make progaram "X" work again by letting it play with it's buddy adware "Z".

Yippee!

Personally, I'd throw program "X" in the trash --- but if I want, I can make it work again.

But let's say that I remove adware "Z" and program "X" still works.
Then, I can use Spybot's "recovery" option to show me adware "Z" which is in quarantine in Spybot's Recovery folder, highlight it, and tell Spybot "it's cool, make it go away forever" and Spybot will. ta-da!

Fact is, I think Spybot Search & Destoy is a fantastic tool. But I don't make money when you use it, so if you choose not to --- then that is your choice.

But I think the key for all of us is understanding -- and what we don't understand is basically useless. If it is not the tool for you so be it, but what have you got in mind to replace it?
Or do you even want to, it's not a requirement.
When you catch on, it can add just that little bit of security which we all value.

You did well to find that spyware -- you just didn't realize how it got where it was. No problem, and I think you were justified in your concern.

Thank you, I do understand it to a point, at least I do concerning the reason why I wrote about this. Thanx for noticing that I tracked it down, Find file is one of my favorite things on my pc.
The nasty as you put it, actually came from a link in a thread in here at TT:thumbs do
And I was planning on doing a reply on it in one certain way, but now have another reason to reply in a different way. Some one put a scam kinda thing in here, and sadly I fell for it at first. After I do my reply, I will let it be known which one it is.

I guess I'm saying I'm not going to get uptight if you don't like Spybot.
It truly doesn't matter to me if you use it or not -- it's your PC, what you want to do with/to it is your personal business.

I was just trying to explain what Spybot is doing, and the reason it does it.

There is a good reason, and it is no longer allowing the bad file to do bad things. It just kept it in case you change your mind, or maybe just want to keep track of all the nasties it has found.

Just wanted to try to help.
Keep in mind - you can tell Spybot to delete the nasty and it will go away, just like that.

You have an inquisitive nature, I like that you put Spybot to the test to see if it really made the nasty go away.
No, you are right. It is still on your PC, but now Spybot has it in a stranglehold and is waiting for you to tell it to kill it or set it free.

I think you have convinced me
That thing is ganna be gone soon, and I intend to learn all about spybot. Maybe someday I'll be able to pass this on to someone else, as you did me. And know what I'm talking about. And to insure I know what I'm talking about, you bet your britches I'll put it to the test!!!
