You would have had to install a software firewall of your own. Either that, or you would have to use XP's built-in one (are you even running Windows XP?).

I really doubt that's the problem, though. You can try searching Google and Microsoft's database. It wouldn't be strange to find something useful, but searching can be quite tedious.

It's either that, wait for someone else to post, or reinstall your operating system. The latter tends to fix all problems not associated with hardware, and should fix your problem, but isn't guaranteed to fix the problem.

          Hi,

try going to Start>Connect to>Show all connections

Select your connection (ADSL, Freeserve, Etc)

          Right click on it

          Go to Advanced tab

Check whether the checkbox is ticked in the "Internet Connection Firewall" area

You could see if unchecking this has any effect on MSN, but like the others have said, its unlikely this would effect MSN and running without a firewall ain't recommended!

I think he meant reinstalling Windows XP. Well, I think so anyway. He certainly could have been more clear. :P

Do you have a Windows XP CD? I really need more information to help you. Donwload CPU-Z from www.cpuid.com and tell me what chipset it says you have. Go to Control Panel\System\Hardware\Device manager to tell me what video card you have.

Is this a pre-built system from a large company? Again, do you even have a Windows XP CD?

i got my computer from a friend, who did not know really what he was doing with it, abit like me really, he did not really load most things up and he never gave me the xp disc or any back up disc's.
it is not just msn that is not working its when i try and loggin on certian sites, it says page can't be displayed, i try to refresh it and try again but it still does not work.
i have also used spybot to delete spyware on my computer, but it still does not work.
some sites do not load up properly as my activex sercuity settings are prohitting me accessing it.
                      :(

If you can't get an XP disk from your friend, either you need to go out and buy (or order online) Windows XP, or obtain it through less-than-legal methods (not going to say anymore). You probably won't ever be able to have full functionality with that computer unless you reinstall Windows. It wasn't setup properly and has been screwed up to the point where repairing is next to impossible.

thanks for all your helps mainly yawgm0th but thanks to all the people that gave me advice but i managed to fix it by doing this.
Also to everyone who is having the "page not found" error when trying to go to hotmail, its probably a problem with Internet explorer. to fix it do this:

                          1. Open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then Internet Options, then Advanced tab,
scroll to the Security section, and verify that "Check for server certificate revocation" is
UNCHECKED. Also verify that 'Use SSL 2.0' and Use SSL 3.0' are CHECKED, then click OK.

                          2. Click Start, then Run, and enter the following:

                          regsvr32 softpub.dll

then click OK and then try again.
(don't forget the "SPACE" between regsvr32 and softpub.dll)

I have the same problem as badboys. My instant messages take an average of 5 seconds to appear and even keying them sometimes lags. I tried Trillian and the same problem happens. I have run anti spyware + adware program. I would like to know if there is a solution. Badboys mentioned about fixing a link between the file osmim.dll and msn messenger, if this is the solution i would like to know how to do it plz. Thank you.

It doesn't appear that you have any spyware or viruses, but you definitely have too many running processes.

You need to set MSN/Windows Messenger, Logitech, Iomega, and Easy CD Creator to not run at startup. You can do that within the programs and within HijackThis. Ideally, you can get as low as 14 processes (not including either task manager or HijackThis), but realisticly you can get as low as 22 (looks like you have 31).
