  • Problems with MSN Messenger 6.1

Recently I have had two problems with MSN Messenger (I believe all link together). It was running fine until I installed/unistalled a screen saver program that I decided I no longer wanted. With this installation came the horrid auto installation of "my search" toolbar for IE. I uninstalled that too, but ever since that installation/uninstallation MSN Messenger has had a delay when I type and send a message. So when I hit the "send" button it takes an average of 5 seconds before the message is sent. Sometimes it even delays my typing, stops the cursor, and then seconds later it will come back and what I had typed will all be there on my screen. I have never experienced this before and it has become very frustrating. MSN does not have any help topics on this. I have run all spy ware programs, and disk utilities but with no luck in fixing my problem. My most recent attempt was a reinstallation of Windows XP, but that did not fix the problem either.

Has anyone had this problem or know a solution to fixing it?

Download and run Ad-Aware from www.lavasoftusa.com to remove and spyware, which is most likely causing the problem.

I have run that very program with no success. Thanks for the reply.

          have you tried reinstalling Messenger?
There is MSN Messenger 6.2 floating around too.

I have reinstalled MSN Messenger several times. I even cleaned out all registry entries on one of them thinking there might be a bad key that was staying behind. None of that helped.

I have heard V 6.2 is on the way, but have not found where I can get ahold of it yet. Any suggestions?

I've used Trillian before but didn't find it as sastisfactory as some have.

Are you sure MSN is the only program that has this problem? This really sounds like spyware or a virus of some sort. Download HijackThis from http://www.tomcoyote.com/hjt/ and post the log.

I finally fixed it! I no longer have a lag in my MSN Messenger.

Apparently, the link between the file osmim.dll and MSN Messenger was broken. With it repaired MSN Messenger is working properly.

                  Thanks for your help!

You have to give more information.

What do you mean, you can't login? Is there an error message? If so, what is it?

try manually downloading and installing MSN Messenger:

Do you have a firewall program running? If so, disabling it may help. Do you have a hardware firewall (such as a router)?
