Many of us have more than one computer on our home network. At least I do. My roommate runs Kazaa constantly. Since I play Call of Duty constantly, it'd be unfair for me to ask him to not run it every time I play. So, tonight I decided to do something about it.
In the settings in Kazaa, you have to enter an upload bandwidth of at least 24 kbps. Well that's insane. He's a huge porn freak, mostly teenage euro-nudist stuff, and those movies can get pretty big. So I scoured his registry. I knew that 24kbps can't be the lowest it can go.
If you go here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Kazaa\Transfer
You will see a value named Uploadbandwidth If you already set yours to 24, that will be the value. Right click on it and hit modify. Under Base: change it to decimal and type in 1. It would be nice if you could change it to 0, but unfortunately that stands for Unlimited. Right above that is ConcurrentUploads, you can change that in the program, but if you haven't yet, it's there if you wanna change that to 1 also. This is helpful because every time a user connects to you, it takes more bandwidth to establish the connection, therefore giving you a lag spike.
Now you will only have 1 person downloading from you at a .125 kbps rate instead of a 2.4 kbps rate.
If this raises a moral issue in you, keep in mind the great United States was founded on taking and not giving. :)
I hope this is very helpful for those of you who buy the cheap cable/dsl like I do.
