I am thinking of buying a SSD as the price has dropped significantly recently and is considering buying one. However, since i have absolutely no knowledge of SSDs what so ever, I am wondering which is the best one that I can get that is 128GB and around $200.

Re: Need suggestions for a new SSD.
the plextor m3p is a top performer in the 128, and at a decent price:
Amazon.com: Plextor Pro Series SSD PX-128M3P 128GB SATA 6 GB/s 2.5-Inch 7mm Solid State Drive (5 Years Warranty): Computers & Accessories
toggle nand.
the vertex 4, also in 128. toggle performance without the toggle price tag:
Amazon.com: OCZ 128GB Vertex 4 Industry's Highest I/O Performance Up to 120K IOPS SATA 6.0 GB/s 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive With 5-Year Warranty - VTX4-25SAT3-128G: Computers & Accessories
these would be the overall performance drives, handling compressible and incompressible data equally, though i have found that the vertex 4 handles incompressible data so well that it actually benches higher when using 100% incompressible test data.

Re: Need suggestions for a new SSD.
I know they aint top performers, but from a value point of view. The crucial M4 (that does a good job with FW updates) has dropped to around 175euro for the 256GB model. And I read last week (Think it was last week) that Intel just announced a price-drop on a bunch of their SSDs.
Very happy myself with the two Force GT I got, one thing to keep in mind with SandForce driven drives is the trouble flashing them with anything but intel SATA chipset. They claim to work on AMD, but none of my AMD systems could flash any of my SandForce drives (Also got a Patriot Pyro, same trouble as Force GT).My advice - never visit a short-url, no matter who gives it to you. You can't trust any source at any time when you don't know your target
Whitey:Snuggles: Zotac Zbox HD-ID40 (Atom d525, worst purchase ever on cpu), Patriot Pyro 60GB (Thanks to Tweaktown Giveaway), 4GB 800' DDR2 SO-DIMM
Bcube (NAS): ASUS F1A75-I Deluxe, AMD A6-3500 @ 2.1GHz, LSI 9240-8i (M1015) controller, GSkill Ares 1866 8GB blue kit, 4x Seagate SV35.5 2TB, 1x Seagate Barracuda 1.5TB, 1x Samsung HD103UJ, 1x Samsung F4 2TB, Temp. Rebel9 Alu case, Corsair H60, 2x Icy Dock MB973SP-B, NZXT UI01, Enermax T.B. Silence on docks and cpu, Aurum 500W gold PSU. (Draws 65W average, doesn't peak above 100W at any time)

Re: Need suggestions for a new SSD.
*half thread highjack, but seemed to fit in here*
Decided it's time to upgrade my SSD capacity, my current two times 120GB is simply not enough. So I want a 240GB drive on top of that. I don't want a SandForce chipset again so it kinda comes down to 2 drives.
Crucial M4 at 185 euro or OCZ Vertex 4 at 205 euro.
Ofcourse the Vertex4 is (from a bench point of view) a lot better and doesn't cost much more, the question is. Do I need it? I do like the 5 years warranty over 3 on the Crucial though.
It's going to be my game disk with Steam, Uplay and Origin and what comes with them.
What's your thoughts? savings of 10% worth it?My advice - never visit a short-url, no matter who gives it to you. You can't trust any source at any time when you don't know your target

Re: Need suggestions for a new SSD.
The Vertex4 has its good and not so good points. Overall it looks to be a good drive.
Check out the higher end Plextor drives with a 5 year warranty, their performance in a TweakTown review makes them #1.
My personal choice right now would be to go with Samsung 830 or Crucial M4 drives but I'd need to check into Plextor.Q9650 @ 4.10GHz [9x456MHz]

Re: Need suggestions for a new SSD.
Totally missed the Samsung in first go, as I limited my searches to syncron flash and it has toogle. Seems like quite the nice drive and in the right price range with 195 euro. I read the review on the Plextor, and they seem to be some really nice drives but fall outside my price range. My advice - never visit a short-url, no matter who gives it to you. Re: Need suggestions for a new SSD.
The Samsung 830 looks really sweet, and the perfect opportunity to try something new (Brand). And I also like the design of the outer casing, that never hurts.
Will read up on a couple more reviews before finally deciding on what drive to get next week. (to long since I read them all to remember the details).
Thanks a lot for the feedback. My advice - never visit a short-url, no matter who gives it to you. You can't trust any source at any time when you don't know your target

Re: Need suggestions for a new SSD.
Ended up with the Vertex4 after scouting forums and reviews. Was only 4$ more than the M4 (and 3€ less than the Samsung) at the cheapest shop with em in storage and the RAM I wanted (Gskill Ares blue 1866 for my NAS). So total price ended up being the factor here.
Can't wait to till I get it and fire it up, finally I should have the storage I need on my system (500GB) in SSD :)My advice - never visit a short-url, no matter who gives it to you. You can't trust any source at any time when you don't know your target

It does feel faster than the old Force GT, but that's prolly due to the simple fact that I now got a 40% filled drive new drive instead of 90% that hasn't had any cleaning done in a while. My advice - never visit a short-url, no matter who gives it to you.
