Even if I didn't change anything, I suppose if I clicked SAVE, it would show that I edited the post.

I vote that Lsdme adds a link to the Crucial forum post that explains the how-to info.
Yes, if you don't hit save it doesn't leave any traces that you were poking around! I do this often looking for spam in new users posts (Hint hint to the other mods)

Hmm, not sure if I'll be able to dig up the guide I posted for that user at Crucial, but you you guys need one posted here I'll be happy to write up another walk-through for you (But only if you really intend to use it!)

It was just text info on how to, not really a guide, but if you guys need I can make a more in depth step by step

      *Edit

Maybe this was the one I referred to, not sure? Let me know if that's plenty, or if you need more info

Thanks for the link, but your post is almost one week old.
You should update it with a video that shows all the steps.
Be sure to use 5.1 surround sound in the video.

              Re: Ssdmeasap

              Lol !.. trouble in paradise.
Anyway , yeh its SATA2 ssd Wazz, but on the discussion yday when I was thinking about z68 and intel doing ssd caching for p67 , even tho they said it couldnt be done at z68 release.
              Came across this:
              OCZ Synapse Cache SSD review

Looks like the same thing as intels version, just all you need is sata 3 port for the ssd oh and the synapse ssd itself and win7.

The fact that its software based and you need the "special" serial no off the ssd box to dload the software makes me wonder is it just a normal vertex 3 ssd . but with extra software.and a licence to use it !

In the same way makes me wonder did intel deliberately keep ssd caching to the z68 and x79 for "Its mine .. an you cant have any" factor to improve sales .

Next thing intel will be suing ocz for ripping off their idea

EDIT 1: well it isnt actually OCZ at all , and these links would lead some credence to the idea that ocz is selling a Vertex 3 60gb , with a 15-20% price bump to include the nvelo dataplex software.
It also seems you dont actually need a sata 3 ssd or sata 3.0 ports , just that you would only get sata 2 ssd performance from your hdd.

Blog - Accelerator SSD Cache Drive; Installing the Nvelo SoftwareSeagate Momentus XT 500GB Hybrid SATA-II 2.5" 7200RPM 32MB [ST95005620AS] are goin way down right now, even tho they seemed a good idea on release.

              Something to think on anyway.

              EDIT 2:
Just a small update surfing around .
The ocz 64GB ssd SATA 3 (useable by SaTA2)version :
              Good and bad
              1. your ssd cache as mentioned above will be only 32gb(on the 64gb version)
In other words you will be buying a 32 gb cache only ssd drive for 15-20% more than a "normal" 50-55GB useable space ssd drive.

              2. The software only works on a "1 ssd drive caching 1 windows 7 boot drive basis". However the hdd can be up to 2TB and partitions will be cached also.
Raid setups will also be cached.

3.You need windows 7 , but only need an amd or intel setup with sata 2.0.

4.The performance increase of your Hdd will go up on boot a lot and on applications , but is more dependent on how often you use these applications than a regular ssd setup.

5.HDD NOISE: Our pc's are like a resonant box. The "jungle drums effect"
I like others have been running ssd as the main os disc for over a year now.I have the same os on my hdd as on my ssd and can dual boot, if needed.

If youre used to having a ssd as the "normal" main drive, switching back to a hdd is noisy, you can reduce the noise /vibrations . My newer hdd is quiter but its still audible.
I havent done any testing as I dont have ssd caching ,but:

Anecdotal evidence is that with ssd caching of a hdd , of any type leads to more "jungle drums"

              6.WEI index and Atto
My WEI index is 5.9 on hdd boot drive.
Ive seen user reports of people being happy with a 6.3 drive performance(all the other indices were 7.5 or above) index on an x 58 system when they were using a ocz synapse dedicated ssd drive as they got a performance index increase.
This is on a sata 2.0 system and the Atto benchmarks were in the solo ssd region..about 270-280 max read and write .
Id feel there must have been a lot of "jungle drums " on that also.

My WeI index using ssd as the boot drive is 7.7(cpu,memory and drive performance are all the same,gx is maxed)

Taking all the above into account, just for me personally. I dont think Ill bother with ssd caching, whether its srt or some aftermarket job, unless it appears for free . If I go for another ssd I will for sure get an sata 3.0 one..Probably 120GBand use it the same way Im using the SATA 2 60gb one I have now.
Some of that is I couldnt be bothered reinstalling stuff etc.

Its funny..well not funny haha , but Wazza's situation is different, even tho his system isnt that different to mine
He has probably a maxed out WEI index on his HDD rating, all he had to do was get the sata 3, ssd and he has almost full sata 3 hdd performance on his 2TB hdd.He could even go ssd with OS boot drive if he wanted to
              Sheet happens,

really cool app, didn't know of it prior.

This is my system, that really really needs a re-install both cause i still run on my async ssd (from testing to find out what hardware cause me trouble a few month back) and i got un-install-able drivers that aint working etc. Windows performance index has dropped to 5.9 on this ssd by now (same as a normal hdd) as its only got 12gb free space (of 60).

djabba i think you just need to save your ssd image and do a secure erase and re-install then it will put it back to 100%,as for my times its not as fast in caching as it would be with os on ssd, windows exp index still rates the drive at 5.9 as i dont think it recognozes caching, but speeds have improved

kick i thought it used a max of 64gb for ssd caching?

Not sure what you mean there Wazza,

I dont have any ssd caching atm anyway.
The above is just my ssd boot time.then the second is using the hdd to boot,(after changing the boot drive in uefi)like I had no ssd at all.

The "off the shelf" ssd caching from ocz they cut the drive capacity in half for "provisioning" to help the ssd last. 64 gb comes with 32 useablefor caching and nothing else.
The 128gb one ,dunno probly the same, capacity cut in half so then 64gb for caching.

I suppose srt or dataplex dont use anymore than 64 gb max anyway?
Can u specify how much of the ssd to use with srt , or is it automatic?
                          edit:
Oh there is an asrock utility called instant boot Im sure other pc's n bios have similar.
Its basically a shutdown to ram(not suspend to ram) facility pc looks turned off totally but it isnt , gives a 4 second boot time to desktop from the time you press the power on button on the pc,with either hdd or ssd.

I tried to cheat and use that for the laff , I woulda told yas afterward honestly! haha, but this bootracer doesnt recognise it as a full boot

You guys might like this too, it gives much more info on booting processes and times. There's some images of it's results in my C300 review if you need a better example

Thanks Lsd. Still in the process on my reinstall on the new SSD. Shaved another 2 secs of "time to login", but "time to desktop" has increased .. prolly cause I still have several security meassures activated and drivers/tools still try to check for updates themself incl windows itself.
This tool will help me determine (prolly) what causes it :)
My advice - never visit a short-url, no matter who gives it to you. You can't trust any source at any time when you don't know your target
