So i finally went down the ssd route, bought me a corsair gt 60gb but didnt want to reinstall my os so stuck with the samsung 2tb drive for os and used the ssd for caching, all i did was the reg tweak, loaded the raid drivers, rebooted connected ssd and enabled acceleration on the 2tb samsung in intel rapid storage technology

2tb as before without any ssd caching

    hit the acceleration button

and voila,2tb drive with ssd caching enabled,i havnt really noticed improvement yet but need to wait for ssd to fill up and it will get quicker with time, somethings ive noticed are faster

Looks good, but it will feel much snappier if you use the SSD only for the OS. Do a clean install, or mirror your OS onto the SSD itself. To mirror use Macrium Reflect to make an image, then diskpart to align a partition on the SSD, then restore the macrium image.

When restoring an unaligned image onto an aligned disk, be sure in advanced options of macrium restore window that you unselect use MBR from backup image. If you need a better described walk-through of this process let me know and I'll link you to one I just wrote for someone over at Crucial.

yeah, first with just the 2tb with os/files/games ect on intel port 3,next screenshot is added in ssd on intel sata3 port 1,i did have to enable raid in the bios following the reg tweak and raid driver install, then everything worked fine on reboot,i just didnt want the hassle of a reinstall and seperating everything out ect, with rst drivers supporting trim in raid just around the corner ill be fine in maintaining the drive, but i still have garbage collection,im allready noticing the start up improvements, everything is just there, loaded on the desktop and windows media centre loads in 2 seconds

you do take a slight hit on read speeds,as aposed to installing the whole os onto the ssd but its not a huge loss

btw prof i didnt edit your last post, just clicked edit button by mistake,

            Re: Ssdmeasap

Edit/Cancel wont leave any traces of looking

If you need any help with mirroring to SSD alone let me know, it's easy don't let it scare you! And no worries on the copyright breach, the name is only covered by BeerWare licensing

              Re: Ssdmeasap

I just clicked EDIT on Lsdme's post, then hit CANCEL and there's no trace of Moderator mucking around.
Even if I didn't change anything, I suppose if I clicked SAVE, it would show that I edited the post.

I vote that Lsdme adds a link to the Crucial forum post that explains the how-to info.

                          Re: Ssdmeasap

                          Heeyy nice Wazza! IWOOT.

Ill have to do some ATTO bm's to show my bad transfer rate :)

You could do the dual boot thing for the OS but then youd lose so much ssd space the cache would get small, maybe so small that it would get flushed out a lot?.

What you have is like a giant version of one of those hybrid drives yeh? except caching works on both read and write.

Seems the ideal way to use it,a smaller one anyway and a 2TB ssd is probably expensive :) n nice speeds.

Do you have to use the Marvell ports with it ? just wondering, thought I saw something like that posted.

I know you were worried but it seems not only will p67 and z68 be able to use the ivybridge but intel are starting to sneak ssd caching in for p67 .
"they said it couldnt be done"
Hope it wont be anything like the "special pentium" that fitted a 486 board

                            Re: Ssdmeasap

i think it only works for intel sata3 ports,im using intel port sata2 for the 2tb and intel sata3 port for the ssd,ive dropped the dual boot for now, just sticking with win7 a few pograms i needed with winxp have been updated to run on win7 so i dont really need xp now, though i still love it as an os

this way i get ssd speeds with 2tb of space,i think its the best way to go for small ssd's and a tight budget

would you be looking for an asrock extreme4 gen3 z68 board kick?

                              Re: Ssdmeasap

I was really thinking of win 7 on both, thats what I use but the hdd os I just use occasiobaly.like if I get a bsod when trying to push sli on on some benchmark

This is the thing I saw , sounds a bit iffy to me NCIX FORUMS - ASUS SSD caching works on my P67 board

I have seen that intel is enabling it on their own p67 boards whether it will filter to others , who knows.

                              A z68 ex4 gen 3
Well since the new 1155 is supposed to be backward compatible with both p67 and z68,
This ssd caching might also filter down to p67
and Ive just bought that second 460 (no pci 3.0 gx benefit, if there really is much) for at least a year and spec on the other aspects of the brd isnt quite as good as an ex 6.

Then again if you have some "discount deals" source ..gimme a pm

                              Oh here Atto 2010 edition..
The top 2 pics are the ep-45 with ocz ssd and my slow green wd 1 tb, yeh had the bmarks saved.
the bottom 2 pics are ocz ssd and 500gb hdd in asrock.
Not a huge diff but, hey now you can suppress a chuckle .. bah ssd caching !Click image for larger version
