funny, if warranty times are good on drives, no company would sell defective products. It would not make economic sense. To say the warranty period of Maxtor, then discount its quality is just, shall I say, showing ones religion. I read a study by Google who uses tens of thousands of drives and have failure rates by brand; while they don't name the brands they say no one brand has higher failure rates than another. There is historically, a model that Maxtor put out that had firmware issues. That chapter has long been closed. Interesting is the WD was, at one time nearly going bankrupt over quality problems and has since rebounded, but it took years for their reputation to recover. Now, to say they make better shows ignorance, for the industry for hard drive manufacturing is mature and a commodity market.
