    Hi all,

    I am using an AMD XP1700 CPU in an ASUS A7V333 motherboard. I would like to buy a fast CPU, say AMD XP2700 or above. ASUS web site indicates that the A7V333 motherboard support the XP2700 since PCB 2.00 and firmware 1013.


    What does PCB stand for and how can I check the PCB of my motherboard?

    When they say PCB, they mean the revision number, it will usually be down near the last pci slot (furtherest away from the AGP slot). It could be on a sticker on the side of it the last pci slot or silk screened onto the PCB

      Maybe it did... once. The problem is that all the higher AMD CPU's now use 333 fsb (166 pre-doubled), and the A7V 333 only supports 133 fsb. If you could find a XP 2700+ that ran on 266 fsb, then it should run fine in your board. But as for getting one, well, I don't think so.

      P.S.- Asus earned another kudo from me, for not even listing the A7V 333 on the Australian web site.
      At least the N.America version had it.

        Not quite. I bought a 3000xp with 333FBS - all the A7V333 needs is a bios update to handle the increased bus speed

          flash the bios, believe they are up to 1013 .ohh thats thier firm ware.
          pcb could be on the board as said or on/in the box.
          ddr 333 is possible, but my friend won't let me play[oc] it..
          k6-2 .and . . . AMD 64bit|3.2,1G[2326],9800xt [both died] miss my 500 K's
          recycled from the trash [and in use]
          2 = 945G chipset boards 2G Celeron and dual Pentium
          3 = AM-37 FIK motherboards 2-2.6 G
          in storage 810/815 chipset P3's 800MHZ[4setup and +? not]

            1. Oh, a 3000+ with 333FSB? How cool! I wants!! The 3000+ always came with a 333FSB (unless they released a 400FSB version, but I haven't seen one).
            2. No, thats impossible. The Kt333 was only designed to do a 266 FSB, and thats all they can do without overclocking.

                I have tried to get a look at the Asus site to see this, but they have taken the A7V333 of it (all of them). I didn't say that wasn't possible to run 333FSB on, just that it wasn't possible to do it without overclocking. I don't know how they could possibly get the chipset to do something that it wasn't designed to do from the get-go, and quite franky I wouldn't trust Asus not to pull a swifty on everyone.

                BTW, its 'FSB' not 'FBS'.

                  it was meant for ddr 333 but alot of boards did not reach the promise but some do,
