My mainboard is a Gigabyte GA-H67MA-UD2H-B3 (rev. 1.1) powered by a Intel Core-i5 2500. Nothing is overclocked (H67 not able) and the system is super stable :-)
So, the system already has two sticks of 4GB 1333MHz rated RAM, .. a total of 8GB running dual channel with module/rank interleaving on at 1333MHz.
Now I'd like to add 2 more sticks of 4GB for a total of 16GB. However, I can only source the latest part which is rated for 1600MHz, from the same RAM manufacturer.
In the attached image you can see my current RAM on the right hand side.
The part I'd like to add is on the left.
I'm not sure if they would work well together seeing as the BIOS only allows setting the memory frequency on a system wide basis... Of course CAS timings etc are available for each module.
I have seen the newer part in my local shop and the PCB and chip layout is identical fwiw.
Advice needed as I have no idea if it's standard practice for high speed rated ram to be able to run at a slower speed (i.e run 1600 part @ 1333) -I presumed it was normal practice but after seeing the docs, and there is no mention of 1333mhz, I'm not sure.
For reference here are the www links for the docs:
New part which I'd like to add to system: http://www.elixir-memory.com/product...IMM-R11-HS.pdf
Existing part which will remain in place: http://www.elixir-memory.com/product...-UDIMM-R11.pdf
Side Note: I'm very happy with this RAM. At first I was hesitant to go with what first appears to be "unbranded" memory but after investigating Nanya I found they are a Tier-1 Taiwanese fab that actually make the silicon and ensemble the chips. I was far happier to make this purchase and even save money over buying something that had been re-badged. Basically; My setup runs 24/7 at 50% CPU usage, 6GB RAM load in Windows, In a tropical country & high system temps ....and my system has been rock solid.
My SYSTEM:
