  • http://192.168.2.1 How do you connect to it?

I have been trying for over a week to connect to this site to configure my wireless router/modem, but just cannot do it, I keep getting a page cannot be displayed, is there some secret I should know? I have reset the router, removed the connection and removed all traces of this conn and any previous ones, but with no result. I've even tried to force the connect with :88 on the end, still no joy.

It's very possible I've set it up wrong in network connections, but I cannot see how.

    Can anyone help?

    Many Thanks

It's not so much a site as it is the device itself. Try 192.168.1.1. That's what most Linksys routers are on.

Sorry, I should have put the make down, it's a Belkin.

Hmm... Well either you don't have the cords setup properly or the computer needs some messing around with. Go run the Network Setup Wizard in Control Panel\Network Connections.

          I haven't been thnking straight...

Go to Command Prompt or DOS(Start > Run > CMD in XP/2K or start > Run > Command.com in Win9x) and type ipconfig. Put the number displayed as Default Gateway into your browser. If you've set this up right, that should take you to the router setup page.

Hmm, maybe I haven't set it up right then as that didn't work either.

I'm connected to the net via the router and everything seems to work fine, so do I actually need to goto this configuration site?

All I want to do is connect my Girlfriends Notebook with a wireless PCMCIA card to my ADSL line via the router/modem.

Oh and if I don't need to connect to that site, do I have to do anything with my desktop (wired to router) to see the wireless card in the notebook or do I have to do the connecting from the notebook and just have a standard conn on my desktop?

Can anyone point me in the direction of a VERY basic step by step guide to connecting a Desktop computer that is wired via a router/modem to a Notebook that is going wireless.

All I have done so far is installed all the hardware, as from there I have no idea where to start.

              Many Thanks

From there, run the Network Setup Wizard (Control Panel\Netork Connections) on your machine and configure your girlfriend's notebook. You can either use the software that came with her card or just go through Windows in Control Panel\Network Connections\Wireless LAN. In there you will find that you can connect to available networks. If the router doesn't show up, then you need to either access it like you've been trying (although the stock settings of most routers should work) or set it up properly if you haven't.

Thanks Yawgm0th, I think I'm going to have to call an IT bloke in as I obviously have no idea.

The setup diagram is exactly how I have it, and I have run network connections on both computers and both are bridged (not sure if together, doubt it), the laptop finds one SSID called Belkin 54g with a signal strength of excellent but says wireless connection unavaillable.

                      I really have no idea.

                      Thanks again

Actually seeings as I havent been able to access http://192.168.2.1 to configure my router, then I guess thats got to be the problem, but how do I fix this if I cannot connect?

Try resetting the router. Should be a small inconspicuous button, check the manual for exact usage.

Did you bought the router new? cuz if you did then nvm, but if you didn't, u prolly didn't reset it right. Did you press the reset button in the back for more than 10 secs with the router plugged in? And if you have the manual, see if the address is correct.

And also, is the router set at default to have remote management enabled? Cuz if so, we can just set it from here.
