    Re: 5850 crossfire issues

Have you tried installing only the second unrecognized card in the first video slot?
Are there any crossfire settings in your mobo's bios?
Does the video card software require that crossfire needs to be enabled or configured?
Doing a web search on how to set up crossfire might help solve the problem.

      Re: 5850 crossfire issues

Have you tried installing only the second unrecognized card in the first video slot?

Yes....i have 10 5850, 10 mobo M3A770DE whit all gpu and mobos in all possible combinations, same results(as u can imagine that took ages to be done ).

Are there any crossfire settings in your mobo's bios?

      None

Does the video card software require that crossfire needs to be enabled or configured?

Windows device manager is showing only one installed 5850 in display adapters, other one is detected as unknown device when i try to update driver from driver cd or any other way wizard tells me it can`t be done.
ATI catalyst doesn't offer any crossfire options since it can`t communicate whit 2nd 5850 card.

Doing a web search on how to set up crossfire might help solve the problem.

doing it for a few days...all regular set up instructions failed me....iv tried older versions of ATI catalyst, updated bios to latest version, other os - xp sp2, win7 i will run it on ubuntu 10.04 , 11.04 tomorrow...actually i don`t need crossfire, only thing i need is 2 gpu 5850 identified in display adapters device manager setting.

      thanks for replaying...

      p.s.

      I'm not alone...

        Re: 5850 crossfire issues

Sapphire recommends a 600 watt psu for dual cards (500 watt minimum).
Have you connected 2 6-pin power cables to each of the video cards?
What brand/model power supply are you using?

              Re: 5850 crossfire issues

Make sure you only use 1 crossfire bridge. Make sure you do a clean install of everything, and are using the correct application profiles. Make sure that you have the correct, or a sufficient power supply.
Test each card in a working PC. Try using Radeon Pro. Ignore 3d mark results, esp 3d mark 11, use unigine heaven instead when testing.

Make sure you have the same card model, you dont want a 1gb and a 2gb or a 512mb running together, sometimes these are difference cards that have been re-branded. Check in device manager for any conflicts. Reset your BIOS to default, and then go and loof for any possible PCI-e setting that you might need to change.

Disable then re-enable your sound card, this sounds weird but it's worked for me before, you have to boot into your OS each time, then change the card's setting. Esp if you card is on-board, this has something to do with the audio encoding of AVIVO. Try drivers with and without AVIVO, also try reinstalling your AMD chipset drivers.

                Re: 5850 crossfire issues

                Hello everyone,

I know this is an old thread but I thought starting a new one would be unnecessary since I'm stuck with a similar problem.
Using the M3A770DE motherboard I'm trying to crossfire two Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 1GB cards. I've tried every trick found on the internet and in this thread but to no avail. The second card (the one in the orange PCIE-X4 slot) simply doesn't get detected at all. When booting the system the fan on this card spins up to full speed and stays at full speed but doesn't give a signal to a second screen connected to the card. The first card works fine, get's recognised and self-regulates the fan speed. I've tried switching the cards but the same thing happens, the top card works fine but the bottom one (in the orange slot) doesn't. I've uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers almost 50 times now and it's driving me nuts so I was hoping someone on this forum would hold the answer to my problem.

                Thanks in advance!;)

I'm afraid that doesn't work, I've already tried that method 4 times but all it does is reinstall the drivers for the card in the green X16 slot since the second card doesn't get detected at all even though its properly seated and the system has an adequate psu (Corsair TX750 V2):(

The strange thing is that my brother has the same motherboard (M3A770DE) and is using a HD 5770 and that one won't work in the orange PCIE x16@X4 slot either. Same symptoms, fan spins up, no signal.
