  • GPU issue - 2 Gigabyte 5970's CrossFireX

My CPU-Z Validator in my signature shows GPU1 Core @ 156 / Ram @ 300. GPU 2,3,4, shows to be running Core @ 724 / Ram @ 1000. I haven't had any issues - Just concerned I might have issues later. Is there a monitoring program I can use to monitor all GPU's???

What does the latest version of GPU-z show?
Enabling GPU-z logging should provide detailed information.
When my GTX 460 is overclocked, I frequently see underclocked gpu and memory settings when my system is idle.
MSI Afterburner might show all gpu core and memory information.
I'm not familiar with what information is displayed with the AMD software utilities.

Re: GPU issue - 2 Gigabyte 5970's CrossFireX

proJim, Thanks for the info. GPU-Z latest version shows default clock 725/1000. Also shows slight OC I installed 750/1050. I don't know much about OCing VGA's so I kept my OC on the small side. The only thing I can think that might give the lower readings in other programs - they must throttle up and down??? In the logging section it shows 0% use (idle) 156/300. Thanks wibujo

Re: GPU issue - 2 Gigabyte 5970's CrossFireX

        Glad to help out.

Check out GIGABYTE Radeon HD 5970 2GB Video Card :: TweakTown USA Edition
where they overclock a single 5970 from the stock 725/4000 settings to 910/4740 settings.

        An internet search using:
        • 5970 crossfire overclocked
        • 5970 overclock guide OR tutorial
should provide additional information to help you overclock your crossfire setup.
I've found gpu overclocking much easier than cpu/memory overclocking, but the process is similar where you need to stress test your video card to ensure that the overclock is stable.

Good luck, let us know how you make out.

Re: GPU issue - 2 Gigabyte 5970's CrossFireX

profJim, Sorry for the delay getting back to you. I was busy hooking up the third WC loop in my RIG - Then I had to see if "CORE" temps were cooler. I managed to get OC'd to 4.72GHz LinX 20 pass stable - 4.84GHz seems impossible. Anyway, I went to 3D GURU forum and went through OCing guide for the 5970 VGA's - Also read the Gigabyte Radeon HD 5970 BLOG you were suggesting - This is my first VGA OC and they made it seem easy. Well, I OC'd my cards to 800/1200??? I ran 3DMARK Vantage with stock settings: P41371 Then with the OC: P43304 - I know that's probably not a big increase but it's a start. I'll just keep reading and tweaking. If I have any problems I'll post back in this thread. Thanks again wibujo

Re: GPU issue - 2 Gigabyte 5970's CrossFireX

If you run a gpu stress program like furmark in a windowed mode,gpu-z should show the cards running at full speed, what your seeing is the cards in idle mode, where the gpu auto clocks down to save power, my card has three clock stages so your will be similar
