call me lazy i havnt read the link, but the magazine reveiw said the 7800gs wasnt much better than a 6800gs or gt, maybe 3-4 fps bettwer, so i personally think its not worth it. the gto2 is good, but you should look for sm3 - im regretting i bought mine. that said, it rips through all games at 1278x1024 bar FEAR with high antialiasing. but to get good performance it needs unlocked, however iv only heard of one person of thousands that couldnt do it.

I'd rather have a 7800GS, though the X850 outperforms it slightly. However, the price difference is HUGE. Get the X850.

          Re: X800gto Vs 6800gs

I just picked up a 6800GS off a mate as he wants to get a 7600 instead. I've seen the benchmarks and it looks like the 7600 is a bit faster, but not more than some overclocking would achieve.
Are there any new features in the 7 series over the 6 series? From what I can gather the 6800 has HDR and SM3 etc and the 7 series hasn't offered anything new?

              Re: X800gto Vs 6800gs

hmm thanks for the info. We can't the get 6800gt/ultra for much longer in Oz, there's only the GS's available now, so I assumed they'd be the fastest 6800's.
So the only difference between a 6800 and a 7600 is the clock speeds? No other features? I've seen here that the 7600 will do 6000 on 3DMark 05, but so does the 6800GS clocked to 525, 1.22, and it's cheaper (just) SLI will do 10000 3DMark 05 as well, which is pretty crap compared to your one 7900gt!! Ah well...

                Re: X800gto Vs 6800gs

And 3DMark 05 means absolutely nothing. In games, a 7600GT is better than a 6800GS. A 6800GS is also virtually identical to a 6800GT in games, just not in 3DMark.

They both have a feature advantage over the X850XT, which is Pixel Shader 3.0. It provides a number of graphical enhancements in a few existing games and some upcoming ones. It also may give those upcoming games better performance in the 6 and 7 series cards than the ATI X800 series. IMO, a 7600GT is the better card to get, however the X850XT is worth getting depending on what you're looking for.

                    XFX 7600GT $154AR FREE SHIPPING

For those looking into the 7600GT, here is a pretty good price. I personally like XFX cards, and this one can probablt be overclocked to 590mhz core 1.5ghzmem.
