• howto turn a V5 into a V8

as some people might know here are the difference between a V5 and a V8:
http://www.xgitech.com/products/pro...BB12EFEC4081%7D
http://www.xgitech.com/products/pro...06B1372EBDB0%7D

the only diff is that:
V8
• 4 sets of Pixel Shader (2.0) with Fully compliant DirectX 9.0 Pixel Shader ver. 2.0</span>
• 8 sets high performance pixel rendering pipelines
V5
• 2 sets of Pixel Shader (2.0) with Fully compliant DirectX 9.0 Pixel Shader ver. 2.0
• 4 sets high performance pixel rendering pipelines
a V5 is 300Mhz core and so is a V8
a V5 Ultra is 350Mhz core and so is a Ultra V8

I am pretty sure it is possible to activate those pipeline on the V5 to turn it into a V8.
Anyone has done it?
Someone has any clue on how to proceed?
Any software that can tells whether or not those pipeline are activated?</span>

Every little things will help (as in Tesco -lol-)

thank you guys

I dont think anyone in this forum as a volari, but time will tell. Do they use the same core?
CPU: Opteron 165 @ 311x9 - 2817.8 mhz - 1.47v
Mobo: Abit KN8-SLI
RAM: 2x512 Crucial Ballistic Tracers500 @ 202 mhz 2-2-2-5 T1
GFX: Asus EAX1950pro @ 648/1408
PSU: Thermaltake 500w
SC: Audigy 2 zs
LCD: 22' Samsung 225bw
Speakers: Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 Ultra
Mouse: Logitech G5

Apparently it is the same core, just on the V5 XGI disable some pipelines.
Yeah Volari's are pretty rare, but I reckon they have some kind of potential for their price (below 100 US-D).

They are not rare, its just that people in these forums stick to mainstream distrubitors; nvidia and ati.

In the video card tests at tomshardware.com (VGA charts IV), the Volari cards wouldn't run many of the tests and had shocking results in others. Unless you've got the card for free, I'd stick with the mainstream chipsets of ATi and nVidia.

Wraith, thanks for your kind advice, but I do not agree with that point of view.
Beside I would not call tomshardware as realiable.
The truth is the V8 Ultra (not the duo one) is actually not that bad for a card that you can grab for less than 100 bucks.
