A 6800 would have to be oced real high to reach 6800GT speeds. And the GT has like 16 pixel pipelines while the 6800 does not
The 6800GT however can easily be overclocked to Ultra speeds since the only different between the Ultra and GT is that the Ultra has higher clokc speeds.
6800GT: 350mhz core/ 1000mhz memory; requires 1 power connector
6800Ultra: 400mhz core/ 1100mhz memory; requires 2 power connector
The GT also uses 256MB of GDDR3 RAM (any regular uses 256MB is probably a downclocked or mislabeled GT) while the regular will only use 128MB of DDR RAM.
Which has GT speeds (350, not 325) but regular 6800 pipelines. Like I'm saying, they can underclock cards or include them with less pieplines or vertex shaders or overclock cards and have more pipelines and vertex shaders. It's hardly different than the Sapphire 9800 Pros with a 128-bit memory interface, except nVidia seems to be allowing it, so far.
The GT and Ultra are supposed to have 256MB of GDDR3 RAM with 16 pixel pipelines and 6 vertex processors, with the GT clocked at 350/1000 and the Ultra at 400/1100. The regular 6800 is supposed to have 12 pixel pipelines and 5 vertex shaders. You will see variations of this in several ways, whether the cards come with newted and underclocked hardware or overclocked hardware. Techinically, all 6800s should be 128MB and all GTs should be 256MB. If I remember correctly, Asus made cards that change both of those, with both a 128MB GT and a 256MB regular (which is what you referred to, if I'm remembering the Asus cards correctly).
That looks right beased on what I've seen at Newegg, (although I usually like to double-check with more reliable sources) except the prices are a little different (the Asus regular costs less than a normal GT but more than a regular 6800).
a standard 6800 gets about 9000 in 3dmark 03, a 6800GT gets around 11000
Edit: the 6800 is around 50-75% faster than a 5950u thanks to its extra pipelines, and better shader capabilities. the 6800GT and Ultra models are over 100% faster
Hey thx for the link wayout44. That helped alot. I think I'd be plenty happy with just a 6800:p They werent kidding when they said doom is optimized for nVidia cards.
