R9700 Pro vs R9800 Pro

What are the differences between these two cards, and if I could save a few bucks and buy a 9700 Pro, would it perform closely to a 9800 Pro? Thanks in advance

Main difference is clock speeds. Some tests have revealed that the 9800 performs somewhat better at the same clock speeds as a 9700 due to some core changes, but all in all they're pretty much the same cards at different speeds. With some modified cooling some people have O/C'd their 9700 to 9800 Pro speeds and beyond. Someone who I cant remember has a really good guide on doing this, but I cant find the link at the moment, I'm sure he'll come in and give you the goodness.

The 9700 has support for directx 9, the 9800 has support for directx9++.:cheers:

Directx9, 9++....what's the difference? There are hardly any games (if any) that use Dx9 right now anyways right? (I know that's where things are headed, just making sure that right now most games don't really use it)

Most games that come out now (and a few that are already out) support the fancy DirectX 9 functions. In the long run, if you can afford it, it's probably more worthwhile to get a 9800 Pro or 9800 XT.

aside from what's already been said, if i remember correctly, the 9800 pro is also physically built better then the 9700 pro. I think there were some issues with the 9700 pro's molex adapter and possibly a lower quality pcb... but I can't remember exactly.

9800 will clock much higher than 9700.
