  • Radeon 9200 256mb Dual Monitor >?

I would greatly appreciate some advice please.

    I run:

    WinXP Home SP1
1.25 gigahertz AMD Athlon XP Bus Clock: 100 megahertz
    1024 Megabytes Installed Memory
157.58 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity
    RADEON 9200 SERIES [Display adapter]
RADEON 9200 SERIES - Secondary [Display adapter]
    Samsung 570B/580B TFT 14.9"

Now regarding the Radeon 9200 Series Display & 2ndary adapters, the card i have installed is "alledged" to be 256mb - but when i run 3Dmark2001 it states i only have 128mb available ?

Is the dual monitor settings (which appear to be inactive) taking up the other 128mb ?

I only use the PC for games & my 3Dmark2001 result was between 5460 & 5505, which i understand it to be pretty poor...

All the necessary drivers are uptodate & i am completely lost in this area of PC problems..

Is there a way i can deactivate the loss of the 128mb if this is the problem ?

Any help or advice will be greatly received.

    Thanks

    BB

No the 2nd monitor does not use half the memory and I have yet to see or even hear of a 256MB R9200 as only the highend cards have that amount of memory.

      Thanks for the info m8

But In the system settings, it clearly states that the card i have is a 256mb - however it is split into x2 128mb - Primary & Secondary..

I fixed the display settings to just one primary monitor - however i had hoped the split would of been removed - alas it has not.

So i am still stuck with 128mb

Sounds like i was screwed by Time Computers...

EDIT: i have a Amd Athlon XP 2600 - should be 2.08 GHZ but its only reporting 1.25GHZ - any ideas on this as well ?

It sounds more like ya system is detectin' the same card twice (even ATi only states support for up to 128MB on their site for that chip). Check ya FSB frequency as it's likely set at the wrong frequency.

....I know Powercolor makes a 256MB R9200 - so you very likely do have one...

          since 1.25 GHx x 1.66 = ~2.08GHz
it sounds like your system bus is running at 100 instead of 166(?)

5500 in 3Dmark2K1se on an "untweaked" underclocked system is probably about right.

I have never tried a 256mb card with 3d '01. That program won't see alot of things. For example, it won't recognize a socket 370 celeron teulatin at all, or an athlon xp when combined with certain chipsets. And almost all the time, it says the amd cpu's have 66fsb. Try it with 3d '03, it should see all the mem, but that program is buggy about detection as well(it sees my cpu as a pII), very odd.
As for that xp 2600, be sure that it is a (333/166x2) before setting it at that. The xp 2600 was the only xp available in both 333/166x2 and 266/133x2.

All the modern ati cards I have worked with have two seperate outputs.

Sorry maximus7001 but Teulatin cores are very rare (especially here) and not very well supported as Intel pushed the P4 core over them but I've never had 3DMark '01SE ver.330 report any Athlon as havin' a 66MHz FSB yet. : peace2:

As stated before, there is no such thing as 256MB radeon 9200. And it is perfectly normal for your card to show up in the device manager as in both primary and secondary display adapters. The later radeon cards do this, just like my card. I believe this is because of the dual monitor support (hydravision). You shouldn't even try to remove either one of them, and in fact, I'm not even sure if you can, because it should auto-detect it again once you restart.

Stop trying to confuse this guy. Maybe he got a relabled or switched 128mb model in 256mb packaging. I have seen it all. Recently discovered a customers machine had been sold to him 2 years ago by a shifty dealer with "128mb"upgrade instead of 64mb, well turned out to be half of a blown 256.

Yeah, I stand corrected. Didn't even know about 256mb models ever were manufactured. But the thing about the radeons showing up as both primary and secondary display adaptors is most certainly normal, mine 9800pro does that as well so I suspect that's also the case with 9200 and 9600 models.
