  • FX 5900, FX5900 Ultra & Radeon 9800

The 128mb FX5900 retails at the same price with the 128mb Radeon 9800Pro and at a 150usd more, the 256mb FX5900 Ultra costs about the same as 256mb Radeon 9800Pro with DDR2 memory.
In comparison, which is the better buy for its value and which boards are better in its price range.
Btw, this threas is just out of curiosity, i just bought a notebook for work and i can't possibly afford either of these cards in the near future:shrug:

From what I've heard, the 256mb versions are useless ! The extra 128mb of ram is just that. EXTRA ! As in "not used" !

EDIT: That should read : "not used YET" ..... Future games will use the full 256mb of ram, but you'll probably upgrade by then anyways, so save your $$$ now and get a 256mb version when it's needed.

See this thread for details of where the 256MB comes in handy.

Thanx Persian Immortal, I had a look at the link that u pointed out and decided that as prices of 9700 and 9500 cards dropping every passing day, these became very good cards for their affordable prices. A 9500 costs about 1.5x more than an FX5200 but than, it's much better than the FX5200. So I believe the market is really hotter at this price range rather than at the high-end products. :thumb:
