  • PCI Express vs. AGP8x

Not sure if this is the right place for this question, but hey...

Will the next gen video cards (next year) be produced solely for the PCI Express bus, or for both platforms ? ie: ATI R400 will be produced for the PCI Express bus, but will it also be available for the AGP8x bus for users of the current bus (as a "grace period" between upgrades) ???

I'm not sure, but I honestly can't see how they will get away with solely making PCI-X cards.

There is an enormous amount of info available for PCI Express, but most of it is developer stuff intended for hardware and software designers.

            1. Serial interface
            2. Higher bandwidth (100mb per second per pin)
            3. Requires a (very clean) 12v supply
            4. High temperature (requires direct cooling)
            5. Software compatible (not hardware)
            6. 164 pin connector, measures 89mm

Most likely if this format actually gets goin' it will likely spend time in the industrial area before becomin' more widely available/affordable to the general public.

Whoa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats 16.4 GB's bandwidth. PC RAM isnt that fast yet. Anyways, that about 8 times more bandwidth then AGP8x.

ZEROKOOL: Making an adaptor to run a PCI Express graphics card on an Accelerated Graphics Port, would be like making an adaptor to run an Athlon 64 on a socket 7 motherboard, what would be the point?
