  • Q6600 Overclock 3.4Ghz not stable

    Motherboard : Gigabyte GA-EP43-DS3
    Bios : F10B
    Processor : Q6600 , G0 .. with Spire Thermax Eclipse II Cooler, TX-$ TIM
PSU : Cooler Master eXtreme Power Plus 460W
    Ram : Kingston DDR2 800MHz 2GB x 2
VGA : Gigabyte NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT 1GB
HDD : Western Digital 1 Terabyte
    OS : Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit

Guys im having a problem OC to 3.4Ghz.

im using : 378x9 , ive set my ram according to its timing.

i was having difficulty running prime 95. it would fail within the 1st minute.

I believe im having a problem with voltage. so i had to up my Vcore to 1.52 bios, and MCH Core 1.3 .. DRam 1.8V ...the rest i kept at normal. with this i was able to run prime for about 2 hours.Vcore was around 1.46.. then i notice the Vcore suddenly dropped to 1.42 and than one of the prime95 workers failed saying fatal error less the 0.4

    I have a G0 chip, i believe 3.4 should be an easy task...my temp wont pass 60.

any idea what im doing wrong?

    EDIT: im now running this.

    400 x 8 Multiplier = 3.2Ghz
    Ram Timing = 6-6-6-18 ..1:1
    Cpu V-core 1.5V (bios) . HW Monitor 1.46V idle. 1.41~1.43 on load.
    Cpu Termination : 1.3
    CPU PLL : 1.59
    CPU reference : Auto

    MCH Core - 1.3
    MCH Ref - Auto
    MCH Dram Ref : Auto
    MCH ICH - Auto

    Dram Volt- 1.8v
    Rest all on auto.

running prime now about 3 hours on 3.2Ghz 400x8. so far seems ok. but my real target is 3.4Ghz ~ 3.6Ghz, will this be achievable ?

Monitor CPU temperature with Core Temp or RealTemp.
What SMM(system memory multiplier) did you use for 378*9? Try both 2.00B and 2.00D.
It's possible you need more vcore but check your temps first.
What are the steps for VTT(CPU Termination) and MCH Core? You may get away with lower voltages.

Re: Q6600 Overclock 3.4Ghz not stable

3.2Ghz is easy for Q6600. Mine wasn't able to reach 3.4Ghz without too much juice. Almost 1.5v to stabilize at 3.4Ghz. VID 1.30v. Mine wasn't a good chip.
