  • Lsd Grabs Pot, Rolls DICE

Just doing up a little DICE run to get my hands wet/Frozen, plan a much bigger one next weekend when I have some more time and knowledge.

Just thought I would post up a few pics of my prep process and setup, more to follow as I get going.

I will be benching for MAX Blck, MAX Freq, and a few SuperPI, Wprime runs. I will be using a 920 at first and then move on to using a 965. I have already had the 965 under DICE so I kind of know what to expect with it. The reason I am starting with a 920 is this 920 seemed to get a bit higher/easier Blck on water so I just wanted to see what it's limits are. It's a ES CPU, so limited Mem Muli and Uncore, so it may not fair so well at Max Freq testing, but plan to check it out anyway before moving on to the 965 again.

I only have 3870's so there wont be any big 3D Tests or such coming from me, I am mainly interested in Max Blck and Max overall Freq. Like I said though I will be doing some wPrime and SuperPI for those who like to see that type of thing.

    Setup:
    GA-EX58-UD4P (PCIE Hard Mod'd)
    Crucial 1600Mhz Blue Tracer / Mushkin 1600Mhz #998679
    2 x Sapphire 3870 Toxic 512MB
    Intel i7 920 / 965 EE
    Ultra X3 850W PSU

    Duniek DICE Ln2 Pot

More to Follow Shortly (Few Hours Likely)

See you all soon for some more pics and some progress shots.

    Wish me luck....... Thanks

Oh man I got to get back to benching, looks like so much fun!
That kneaded eraser sure is a lot easier to work with than neoprene and paper towels!

      Looking forward to your results.

Yeah Sean, the eraser is Awesome for sure!!

          Well..............................

Some more Setup Pics, just a few I hate my camera :D

The 920 was a BUST!! I forgot all about Easytune's issue with dropping the turbo multi anytime you hit apply!! Totally killed my Max Freq, and I do think the lack of higher Uncore/Qpi Freq's also hindered the Max Blck.

I was surprised actually because it seemed to do better on water than my 965? Guess that shows what I know.. Maybe I didn't play with it long enough? I think I used about 8 lbs of DICE without much real luck.

I can say for sure after seeing all the "D0" CPU's getting 245+ Blck that Intel DID Change a lot more than just the ink swatch, which of course we all know by now.

Sadly I think these CPU's I have may not even do as good as retail C0's. And of course we all know ES does not mean better than retail anymore. Either way I am happy that they were provided to me for testing!!

Pushing them just makes me want to be able to afford a D0....... Maybe Someday I will be able to afford a D0, like maybe when the i9 comes out! HAHA

(Don't mind the volts, I am just overdoing it to try and not run out of time )

Thanks for stopping in to wish me luck guys!! Got a few more pounds to do, gonna try to get in a few SuperPI 8MB's at higher Blck

Might have to give HT OFF a try and see if things are any better, not that I really want to but I would like to see past 240 Blck

Re: Lsd Grabs Pot, Rolls DICE

Well I borrowed a D0 and I can say I think for sure that the CPU's used above may be fine at a higher Bclk, I think I may be limited by the board is all. Hopefully the new revised ones will do much better!!

Thanks to Gigabyte again for the above CPU's for testing and allowing me to be able to help others!!!

With the W3520 DO I borrowed I again could only reach 239 Bclk, with 15/17/19/20/21 CPU Multi, this is what makes me say I am sure it is the board that has reached it's limit and not the CPU's above. It was hard to get used to this D0 coming from C0 CPU's, I only had a smaller amount of Dry Ice and learning to use less voltages and how that all worked was a bit hard to get down before I ran out of Dry Ice. Once the new X58's are out I will likely buy a W3520 so I can test the above two ES's Vs a D0 again and see just how much the board took part in the max Blck's I could do on Dry Ice.

Still doing great though for this board and my limited skills and the cooling method used I think. I will know for sure once the revised X58's are released if it was this board or not, but I am thinking it is considering the W3520 results at all those multi's reaching just about the same 238/239 Blck

I will post the 239 Blck Validation as soon as I grab it off my the Drive I used. For now, here is a few that I had on USB

                Setup:
                GA-EX58-UD4P (PCIE Hard Mod'd)
                Crucial 1600Mhz Blue Tracer / Mushkin 1600Mhz #998679
                PNY Verto FX5500 128MB PCI
                Intel i7 W3520 D0
                Ultra X3 850W PSU

Duniek DICE Ln2 Pot (10 Pounds Dry Ice)

Some pics of the setup during the run, I'd take some more/nicer ones but my camera sucks so this is all ya get

Max Blck runs, I think I have 239 on disk and 4.969 as well but I haven't had a chance to get that disk hooked up to my setup yet to grab them.

                BIOS F9c

238.97 Blck x 19 HT on Ram on Extreme

                CPU-Z Validator 3.1

236.26 x Blck x 21 HT on Ram on Extreme

Humidity with Dry Ice is not so much of an issue as it is with Ln2, as long as you have a few fans going you will be fine.

I never find any and it is super humid where I am
